Today we’d like to introduce you to Remy Gritta.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Remy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I became a massage therapist in Asheville, NC and practiced there for about a year and then moved to Los Angeles in 2018. I began working at Salon Republic in Santa Monica as the manager of the salon while I waited for my massage license to be approved by the state of California. While I was working there, I met some amazing people, all of which are independent business owners living their dream. These people encouraged and inspired me to follow my own path and start creating my own client base. I decided to start living each moment as an opportunity to meet new people. I looked up from my coffee and said hello to the stranger sitting in front of me, I chatted with people in the airport, dog parks, restaurants, etc. and started meeting people who were interested in my services. I specialize in Deep Tissue and Therapeutic Bodywork. This kind of work is not always relaxing in the moment but can start to help restructure chronic holding patterns in the body that cause dis-ease and chronic pain. As I started to work on a few clients regularly, they started referring me to their friends and family. The best part about really quality bodywork is, when people start feeling a real difference in their body and start living more pain-free lives, they want to share that relief with the people around them. My clients are by best advertisements, and as I continue to change their lives, they continue to change mine.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being a business owner is always going to have its ups and downs, it will show you the areas you excel in, and make perfectly clear the areas in which you need to improve. I am still building my business and I have a long way to go to make it to where I want to one day, but the best advice I have ever received is to just keep going. There will be good days, and there will be bad days, but if you truly want to achieve a goal, just keep going no matter what. Learn to rest, not to give up when you are tired, and celebrate the small victories.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a one woman operation. I am a massage therapist, reiki practitioner, and yoga instructor. I specialize in deep tissue and therapeutic bodywork. The thing that sets me apart from a lot of people in my field is that I really care about each of my client’s individual healing pathways. Not everybody has the same issues, carries their body in the same way, or will be helped by exactly the same thing. It’s like a puzzle I get to figure out with the help of my client. After we address the areas in which we want to see improvement, I educate my client about their body, some of the reasons they may have ended up with pain in the first place, and why what we are doing together is beneficial. I find it helps people to visualize their healing when they understand some of the techniques I use and their own anatomy. I really look at quality bodywork as a give and take. I can only do so much work on someone who isn’t willing to put in some work themselves. Deep and meaningful change always comes with some discomfort, physical or otherwise.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Los Angeles is an amazing place to start a business like mine if you are talented, confident, hard working, and good with people. This city, more than others, has a culture of self-improvement and entrepreneurship that leaves people more open to experiencing new and possibly different healing modalities than they are used to or have experienced before. Most people here are looking to heal from something, either physically or mentally, and if you can truly bring a quality experience to people that improve their lives, people will notice.
