Meet Remington Fraser of The Revury in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Remington Fraser.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I guess it started while working three jobs in law school? Or maybe while I was practicing law. I dunno, somewhere along the way I decided to drop everything and found The Revury, an online marketplace to consign and shop designer fashion. All before turning 30.

It took seven years working retail (at Wrights! In Manhattan Beach!), four years of undergrad, three years of law school, countless babysitting gigs, multiple legal intern positions, two years as legal research assistant and, finally, two years in private practice, with three deal closings spanning from Thanksgiving to New Years — to get me to January of 2019, when I quit my job as an attorney.

Deranged to work so hard for all those years, just to walk away, huh? But, at the ripe age of 29, I realized three things: (1) I dig fashion, (2) I’m passionate about the environment, and (3) I want to build something enduring.

With that epiphany, I built The Revury — an online marketplace to consign and shop designer fashion.

Consignment extends the product lifecycle, reducing the amount of waste in landfills and decreasing the fashion industry’s carbon footprint. It was just a natural fit for me, but perhaps not the easiest fit.

It took MONTHS of working around the clock — recruiting the right team, building-out the custom back-end, formulating and coding the pricing model formulas, creating the consignor intake systems and mailing systems, writing policies and procedures, locating and renting office space, completing all the corporate and IP filings, and building out the website’s storefront.

And it was exhausting. But, we finally launched in September of 2019 (about eight months ago!). Today, we’re still getting our bearings, wrestling with online ads (like, what EVEN Facebook?!) and growing our team — we’re always looking for folks who like to be on the forefront of change, connect with their community, and get s*** done! If that sounds like you, hit us up!

Has it been a smooth road?
HA! Absolutely not! Let’s run some quick math – The Revury opened for business in September 2019, so about eight months ago and two months ago an unprecedented global pandemic hit.

That means six months into operations, we had to close our office/showroom to the public, furlough our employees, and cancel all marketing and pop-up events we had scheduled.

*I know, I know, EXCELLENT TIMING for a new fashion start-up.*

It was a huge blow, but I’ve been working around the clock to single-handedly maintain all operations and we’re now in a good position to weather this crazy storm (apocalypse?!).

Silver-lining: it’s forced me to be more resourceful and create more efficient systems. I can now batch edit product photos in half the time it took me before. Live and learn, I guess!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Revury is an environmentally friendly way of shopping your favorite brands at up to 90% off the retail price.

We specialize in helping folks cash-in on their closets by providing white-glove consignment services. We provide free mail-in and local in-home pick-ups. Once we receive your products, we inspect, authenticate, inventory, photograph, list and market your treasures for sale. When it sells, we mail your check! Super easy.

Plus, it’s good for the environment. On average, each American throws away approximately 81 pounds of clothing every year. By consigning, we extend the products’ life cycle and reduce their carbon and water footprints by 5% to 10%.

So the next time you’re looking for a new top, bag, or a pair of sneakers, score it at a fraction of the price at The Revury & feel good knowing that your purchase helped save the environment and support small business.

What’s not to love. . . right?!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
To start, I’m bias. I was born and raised in Orange County and spent almost a decade living in Manhattan Beach, so I don’t really know any other alternative.

NOW, that being said – I think southern California is a great place to start off. Sure, taxes aren’t as favorable as some other states, however, southern California offers a large concentration of creative, skilled, ambitious talent. A business is only as good as the people behind it so it’s important to identify and recruit the right people for the job. And, trust me guys, it takes a freakin’ village!

Pricing:

  • The Revury resells all the top designers including Mother denim, Ulla Johnson, Isabel Marant, Tory Burch, and more! All at up to 90% off the retail value!!
