Today we’d like to introduce you to Relm Matthews.
Relm, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started photographer back in 2014, funny thing is I bought a camera to record my dance video little did know it would be that camera that changed my passion from dance into photography. I started out as taking pictures of landscape but quickly found out I love taking picture of people. I started taking picture of friends and then started to take pictures of models it was long time and I’m still growing. I moved to La in the fall of 2018 from the bay area to grow and work on my photography. I’m a fashion and portrait photographer working on beauty photographer next. Like any inspiring artist I had to study practice and actually fail and try again till you get it right.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road it’s been very difficult trying to find people to work with and understand how networking goes also finding your style. Photography is a big business and which make it tough because so many people do it. My struggle was to fine my lane and my style of shooting and not trying to copy someone else and be content with my work.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is photography and the name is shotbyrelm, what makes sets me apart is my personality and how friendly and open that make people open up and show their true self when shooting.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was very shy and to myself but my passion was dancing first which brought me out of my sell.
