Today we’d like to introduce you to Regina Briggs.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
You know how, as a child, you have many different aspirations of what you want to be when you grow up? There was a time I wanted to be a marine biologist, a travel writer, and even a high school math teacher. I always loved taking photos when I was younger, and that passion grew stronger as an adult. However, I never thought I could make a career as a photographer, until others began to encourage me.
I went to a very small high school, and we didn’t have photography as an elective choice. When I went to college, I was working two jobs as well as studying full time and didn’t have the means to sponsor the gear I needed at the time. I ended up selling off some of my things and moved to England to study math. While I was there, I took tons of photos of anything and everything. One of my friends said my photos were very “artsy.” That was my first boost of artistic confidence.
One Christmas, my now husband (who also shared a love of photography) gifted me my first DSLR. I was pretty intimidated by it at first and working full time in property management. I didn’t set aside the time to reignite my passion. When we got married, and I was searching for our wedding photographer, I really became inspired and cultivated a love for wedding photography and photographing people. This would be the start of my photography journey. I made the time, and took some classes, and got out there and practiced. I had a friend starting her journey at the same time and we were really able to help each other and had so much fun learning and growing together. In 2010, I started Photography by Regina Marie, which led me to where I am today.
Please tell us about your art.
I have the great privilege of capturing LIFE and LOVE. There are many chapters to each life story, from a newly engaged couple, to their wedding day, followed by maternity, new life and family. Often times, I am graced with the honor of capturing many amazing milestones in my clients’ lives.
Through photography, I am able to freeze moments in time. I am able to help my clients preserve these special moments to look back on not just months from now, but years from now. Photographs are the first thing we reach for when we want to remember a person or reminisce about a special time.
I aim to capture these memories in a beautiful way…clean, classic, and timeless.
I pour all of myself into my art and my business. It is a huge part of me, and always my goal for my clients to LOVE their images.
Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
The beautiful thing about art, is it can be used in many forms. For some, it is an escape. For others, it is a form of expression. Some artists feel compelled to address or depict current events with their art. I use photography as a reminder of what matters in life and what is truly beautiful. I offer people a way to remember what is important to them and hold on to those memories for a lifetime.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
With the type of work I do, my main purpose is to serve my clients and adorn their walls with beautiful images. Some of my work can be viewed on my website: www.photographybyreginamarie.com
I’ve participated in the Shoot and Share Contest for the last several years and have had images voted in the top 10-30%, as well as Finalist round. Recently I received the honor of being selected as one of Hollywood’s 24 Best Wedding Photographers by Expertise.
