Meet Reggie Watkins and Latora Green of The Valley of Change in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reggie Watkins and Latora Green.

May 31st Latora Green started standing on the corner of Sepulveda and Ventura to protest the George Floyd murder. Reggie Watkins conflicted about joining large crowds due to COVID and wanting his son to see activism but not wanting him to be assaulted by police, decided against going to DTLA and instead heard of a small group of people protesting in our neighborhood. Reggie came to the corner and met Latora and a HS graduate named Shyla, plus a few other protesters who were all spread out and distant. Reggie started “doing Reggie” and talked to everyone there. Found out Latora had visions of a non-profit…and 18 weeks later, Here We Are!

Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing started from scratch by people who don’t know each other well, runs smooth! Lol. We’ve had growing pains, Who’s the President/VP, where should money go, anti-protesters, a pandemic, Fires, will Latora Ever take a day off! U know, the normal.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Valley of Change – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a community outreach organization. We specialize in mobilizing the community into action. Giving curated and factual information. Bridging the gap between citizens and local politicians and issues. Our social media and website managing husband/wife team Kyla Garcia and Brick Patrick are a big reason for our continued visibility. We are most proud of our consistency. There have been plenty of groups who started when we did and for whatever reason are no longer going or have taken a step back in their activism. We are Still Here cause of some great circumstances and the sheer will of our organizers and protesters, they keep showing up!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how you can drive about an hour and do anything you want in LA. Beach, hiking, skiing, desert, Entertainment! I hate the Traffic! There is nowhere worse.
