Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Trujillo – Vest.
Osmunda Music aka Rebecca Trujillo Vest is an artist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, music producer, warrior goddess… a force of nature.
As a young girl, she began singing and playing guitar in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Rebecca found private moments shared with her guitar a nurturing experience that she describes as similar to a mother’s love. She eventually moved to Los Angeles and has traveled the world extensively.
Drawing inspiration from her internal spiritual convictions and her passionate activism on behalf of causes ranging from global warming and arts education to people experiencing homelessness and hunger, she weaves sublime melodies into her high vibration lyrics and sends positive messages to the universe.
Rebecca and her husband Michael Vest are founding members of the band Space Babies. In 2010 they opened Earthstar Creation Center, a recording studio in Venice, California; together they have co-produced many projects from this magical, creative space, and artists who have recorded there include The National & P!nk
“Live from the heart”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the most difficult challenges that I constantly face is time management. Being a mom is already a full-time job, but it is vital for me to find the time to continue to grow as an artist. On top of that, I also donate my time as the Music Producer for the Mar Vista Music & Art Walk – https://www.marvistaartwalk.org/
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
With my music, I wanted to make a statement about the undeniable power of positivity—manifest in all of its forms—and the genuine effect of that force in the world. For so many of us, daily news cycles can be a reminder of the dramatic currents that shake our world in conflict-ridden and negative ways, and I see my work as a musical notebook that listeners can use to write their own narratives of affirmation.
“Empathy creates compassion”
I have already released two albums – “Munda” & “Love Will Overcome” & will be releasing my 3rd on July 31, 2020 called “Sending My Love”
My initial inspiration for “Sending My Love” came at the beginning of the “stay at home” lockdown. I immediately knew that one thing that I could do to help the world during this crisis was to send messages of love & positivity. I created one per week & offered them as free downloads on SoundCloud. As a result of being created very quickly, the songs are all minimal & fresh.
“Sending My Love” was birthed by creating chants of simple, minimal lyrics to build & nurture a caring and loving consciousness.
“Let’s be loving people and create a loving world”
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
How I look at success is defined by who I am, how I live my life & the choices that I make. I define success by the life I lead.
Am I humble enough to realize that I never stop learning? I am always a student of life.
It’s so important to have empathy and patience for those that have different views than myself. As an artist, I ask does my music have a positive impact on listeners; do my lyrics reach out to help bring peace and connectivity?
I hope to establish a space to help myself and others relax and embrace a loving atmosphere; to aid in various healing practices which can also be helpful to enhance spiritual growth; inspiring ecological consciousness that helps heal our beautiful Mother Earth.
My hope is to help bring unity.
