Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Swenson.
Rebecca, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey, more directly, Beachwood, a stretch of forest near the eastern seaboard, the town I grew up in had only 800 people residing there. I knew I wanted to move to the city and have more of an opportunity to flourish as an artist. I first moved to Philadelphia in 2010 and got involved in the comics and zine community there, while going to school for animation at the PAA. I left Philadelphia in 2013 to move to LA and then I never looked back. Los Angeles was a gold mine of new experiences and opportunities for myself. While still in school I became a student director and created a few short films for our school’s studio, Red Giant. Which really helped me think of myself as a team leader, which lead to many of the projects I helm today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had many struggles along the way, during the time I was directing I had a teacher who kept taking people from my project and who also stifled my vision quite a bit, that taught me a lot about standing up for myself. Leading over 20 people in my Cat Cafe Project was also a learning experience in logistics and clear communication, we were a successful team, but I know we fell short in those areas.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We create art and specialize in design, we are known for our cat cafe. We are most proud of our structures and world building.
What were you like growing up?
For the first ten years of my life, I was very quiet, and a lot of people assumed there was something wrong with me, but I was just shy and prone to doing things that didn’t make much sense. I was still an artist, but back then I was convinced I wouldn’t make it, or it wasn’t worth pursuing money-wise. I think my past self would like me.
