Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Benenati.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my health and fitness career in 1992. I ran an all-women’s gym in Studio City and being in that environment every day led me to get my certification as a personal trainer. I went on to study massage therapy shortly thereafter and that led to a yearlong course in kinesiology. My teacher at that time suggested I go to China to study a sports medicine technique called TuiNa. Upon returning from my trip to China, I found yoga. That was the beginning of my new and favorite health, wellness, fitness and spiritual practice. I first found and studied power yoga. I then found and studied with Eddie Modestini and Tim Miller in the Ashtanga method. I went on to study Anusara, Kundalini and more Hatha yoga from various teachers over the years. Somewhere in the mix of those years, I took a course in blending aromatherapy as a way to enhance my massage clients experience on the table.
I co-owned a popular studio with my ex-husband for 10 years. During the years of studio ownership, I had a chance to define more clearly who I was as a teacher and what I felt most natural teaching and doing with so many healing modalities now under my belt. It was during my two pregnancies that I realized I loved helping and teaching prenatal women. When a student came to me one day and asked if I could assist her at her birth, my answer was “of course!” I went on to take 3 different doula trainings and I have now, as of date, attended 54 births.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has actually been a very smooth road to the success I am experiencing currently. I have taken courses and continuing education courses over the years that have each fed into the different parts of my business.
The struggle I come up against sometimes is how to expand what I do to reach more people.
Well Born Lifestyles by Rebecca Benenati – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in teaching yoga. Prenatal yoga seems to be bringing me more customers to my Doula business. I am driven by making sure that no pregnant woman ever feels alone along her journey to Motherhood. What sets me apart from other wellness advocates and yoga teachers is my extensive background in many styles of massage therapy, aromatherapy blending and my ability to turn on my intuition to help a student or client reach more of their potential.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is not related to a certain outcome for me. It is a feeling I try to notice every day at least once a day. It is the recognition to myself that I have clients in my books, I have inquiries in my inbox and I have workshops or events on the books. Success to me is hearing that someone referred me. If all my clients come from word of mouth then I feel successful.
When I meet for an interview and I am told how much praise I have been given by a past client, I feel successful.
