Today we’d like to introduce you to Raysean Liddell.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off with just a general love for music—from production to just vibin’ to it. I graduated from San Diego State University and in my early years there, I would always be the one bringing music to the functions. I started with hooking my Sidekick LX up to computer speakers and just rocking the night away with music on the memory card on my phone. From there, I progressed on to manipulating song on two YouTube windows on a laptop. One Semester I bought a small DJ Controller from an ad online for like $30 bucks and taught my self the basics of DJ’n. Fast-forward 3 months later, I’m playing with a mixer in a Guitar Center Store with the homie B.C. and he basically dares me to get it. Financial Aid checks had just hit so I jumped out on a limb and bought it. I took it home thinking there is no looking back now; I have to really figure this DJ Stuff out.
Just six months after I started DJ’n, I got picked up by One Fit Jam (Mark Jones) and Super Hero Events to DJ For Marathons and 5K/10K runs all over the country. Getting to where I am now is a mixture of opportunity meeting preparation. I’ve been grinding for years, making sure to always showcase my skill and dedication. People love working with me because I’m honest and will always be an asset to things I associate with.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The DJ Journey is not for the faint at heart. The road has its ups and its down, but like anything you learn to persevere through it. Like Nip said, the only difference between other people that may have had a similar path or struggle and me is that I didn’t quit. The biggest struggle I’ve had along this journey is getting myself to understand and appreciate my own value and worth. I’m an extremely humble and giving person, and that comes at a fault sometimes when conducting business. That and money: LOL, DJ’n is an expensive craft.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an International DJ. I am most proud of my versatility as a DJ and my ability to help others along the way, whether they are further along or behind me, I show love and offer any game or support or assistance I can give. I think the biggest thing that sets me apart from anyone is I want to see everybody win—like genuinely want to see everyone win.
What were you like growing up?
I’m the middle child so growing up, I was always looking for ways to be included in something. I enjoyed playing sports and performing arts. I was always in school plays and doing extracurricular left and right. I was even apart of several Math Field Day teams that competed against other schools. I also took a particular interest in the music production process. I love being in spaces where music is being made. From producing to the writing to the recording and mixing process, I love it all.
