Meet Raquel Moscardon of UpGrowth Solutions in South Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Moscardon.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Raquel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out writing resumes and cover letters for family and friends. After moving to SoCal in 2014, I surrounded myself with business leaders and mentors by joining a Toastmasters group. I met my life coach within that group and she taught me how to think bigger than myself. By being surrounded and inspired by other business leaders, I found the courage to seek out my first few clients looking for resume help through Craigslist. Throughout this process, I had the business advice and encouragement from my boyfriend, Marcus, who at the time was working as a recruiter for QVC. With his background in business, marketing and human resources, we were able to start Upgrowth Solutions from nothing. We managed to use the money that we received from my first few clients to start a thumbtack account, a website and business cards for the both of us. When Marcus ended his contract with QVC, he saw the problem that was happening nationally, of people not being prepared for the job market and how many qualified people lose out on job opportunities because of their foundation, their resume. Fast forward to today, we have refined our services (resume, cover letter, career counseling) and started a new program called the “Buy One Help One” program. After moving to San Diego and seeing how many homeless people need help, we decided that for every paid resume, we will be helping one homeless person. We also aim to expand our program to women in domestic violence shelters looking for a change and career advice. The vision is to help those who are subjected to homelessness. Those that still have the drive to better themselves and their family. We are also looking to partner with local businesses that help the homeless and be able to provide professional clothes to the people we help.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. In the beginning, I didn’t know where to start and posted ads on craigslist to get clients. Figuring out what to charge people when I’ve never provided a service before was also hard. On the client side, people generally don’t tend to admit they need help until they’re really deep in their job hunting rut. Our clients need to want change for themselves more than we want it for them. That’s always an uphill battle. Additionally, finding the homeless with the mentality to want to make a change is an even bigger struggle. There were times where we didn’t feel like we had a clear vision of what we wanted the business to be.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with UpGrowth Solutions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well, our company focuses on coming up with solutions to our client’s career obstacles. We specialize in getting to know our clients, their strengths and how to present those strengths effectively. Because of our extensive experience in HR, we know that it takes more than a perfect resume to get a job today and there’s an infinite number of reasons why people don’t get jobs today which include, weak foundations, not knowing what an ATS software is and how it works, thinking that sending one resume to every position will work, etc. We’re most proud of the success we’ve had in teaching people how to access the jobs they never thought they deserved and what sets us apart is not only helping people get their dream jobs, but we also look to help populations affected by homelessness, domestic violence and abuse. We’re most proud of taking people who are beat up by the job market, empowering them and teaching them how to access the jobs they never thought they deserved.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
I’d want to write articles and do speaking events sooner. To make more of an impact and reach more people that need help.
