Today we’d like to introduce you to Randi Slusher.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Randi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my career in photography when I opened an online fashion boutique 5 years ago. When I first opened, I couldn’t afford to hire a product or fashion photographer to help me market my store, so I taught myself. Before I knew it, I had families asking me to take their holiday photos and couples asking me to take their engagement photos. I still remember my very first engagement session and the overwhelming feeling of excitement and purpose I felt. It really is an honor to capture moments of love for people. It was during my first engagement session that I knew I had found something very special and wanted keep experiencing that feeling. I closed my online store just over a year ago and began focusing solely on my wedding and family portrait photography.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
While I opened Randi Michelle Photography out of passion for capturing people’s Love Story, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. Owning a business can be very difficult. For me, learning how to price my photography has been the most difficult. I never want to turn down a client but I also don’t want to sell myself short. After all, I want to keep photography as my career! Over time, I have found that my work speaks for itself and the right clients are willing to pay my fees because they value my work. In return, I provide a memorable experience and photos to cherish for a lifetime and generations to come. The lesson? Love what you do, and those who also love what you do, will find you.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Randi Michelle Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in Family Portraits and Wedding photography. I enjoy getting to know my clients and feel that that is what sets RM Photography apart from others. I laugh with my clients, I know their children’s names, and where their favorite coffee shop is. In fact, I may even grab coffee with them just to catch up sometime! I take the time to get to know each of my clients because I’m honored that they have taken the time to look at my work and like it enough to book me for important milestones like their Family Christmas card or Wedding Day. When someone reaches out me, they are inviting me to be part of their family for the duration of the shoot whether that’s an hour or 10 hours on their wedding day. Being asked to be someone’s photographer is not a responsibility I take lightly and I feel honored when I am asked!
Since officially opening my doors in March of 2016, I have photographed 7 weddings and 83 family portraits. I’m so grateful for all the progress made and am excited about the scheduled weddings and sessions for 2018!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Absolutely! I was very fortunate to shadow and second shoot for Jim Kennedy of Jim Kennedy Photography in Costa Mesa, CA. Jim has been in the industry for years and even photographed my sister’s wedding! The photography industry can be very hard to get into and I am so grateful he took the time to teach me and include me as a photographer at some of his weddings. I look forward to mentoring someone as well to pay it forward.
