Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramero Russell.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ramero. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Mmm. Where do I begin? Should I tell the story of my domestic violence survival. Or how I got started in the health and fitness industry to training NBA players and celebrities, or the wrongful conviction story and the nightmares that I had to endure to get to where I am today?
They all rather intertwin and the story is still being written, but what I can say is my fitness journey all began with my mother, she was 5’5 and weighed 220 at one time, she complained of headaches, her knees and ankles, and I said that sounds like a weight issue, lose a few pounds and you will feel better, well she didn’t like that answer and said boy I’m yo momma don’t talk to me like that, so I let it go, well she gained more weight and now she was 290 and desperately needed help, she said Ro help me, all I knew at the time was the less you eat the more weight you gain due to metabolism, 3500 calories equal 1 lbs. of fat and the more muscle you have the less body fat you have, that’s all I knew at the time, so we started with her eating habits, we did portion control, everything the size of the palm of her hand and drinking water and not coke, we did taebo in the water (I taught martial arts for 17 years), well this along with a circuit training regimen took us 11 months and she dropped down to 160, and I’ve been training ever since. Her transformation story got wind of some NBA players’ wives and then I broke into training half of the San Antonio Spurs wives at one time, I also trained Steve Smith back in the day when he played for the spurs, the same year they won the championship.
My public speaking on anti-bully and domestic violence came about through teaching martial arts, I had so many students and parents I was impacting they would often invite me to speak to their class and the teachers loved it, one classroom turned into 2 then 2 into 6 then the whole school to assemblies to seminars to corporations’ wellness programs, but it all started with teaching martial arts and the giving them life stories that affected me that I ultimately survived.
I speak to various groups and individuals as well as inmates in prison, being that I was wrongfully convicted, I understand the plight of the incarcerated person in today’s prison system, I was very fortunate to have my case revered and over turned as if it never happens but I use that experience to give hope to those that truly need it the most.
My domestic silence story is exclusive on a syndicated radio show that I promised I would give that DJ the interview, since I was already on the Dana Cortez show
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh no, never smooth road, but I appreciate the bumps in the road, they have shaped me into the person I am today the main struggle is on an application there is a box that states have you ever been convicted of a felony etc. etc, and although my case WAS overturned and doesn’t show up in a background check I feel at times if I don’t tell, that maybe I am lying, so the look on people’s face when I tell them my story is priceless. It’s also priceless when people who haven’t heard my story finally find out…
Another struggle was losing my mother, getting into a car accident a few months later and losing my job… that was a struggle on my marriage and my children, but we made it
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My corporate wellness solutions is a program created to help companies cut cost in workers compensations and to keep a positive work vibe throughout the company, I do talks and interactive presentations that set me apart from everyone else, we also act out scenes so the people can actually visualize a situation so we can role play it in real time what to do this is what really sets me apart from everyone else.
My proudest moment was I created a wellness program for What-a-burger LLC I was one of the key note speakers for RackSpace, CPS Energy and Pastor 360
What were you like growing up?
My parents would always say I had ants in my pants so growing up, I had tons of energy, I trusted all people and would often wonder off getting lost, I had this thing about older people and would love to hear their stories, so if I was ever lost it was often sitting with some random old person enjoying a story or two.
