Meet Rafael DeFreitas Jr. of Love Wins Publishing & B.O.S.S. Moves

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafael DeFreitas Jr.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Rafael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Riviera Beach, Florida, I am an artist, author, story developer, musician, and a U.S. Marine Veteran. I am a self-published author and have been writing since I was in the fourth grade. My work includes comics, cartoons, novels, poetry, and music.

As a result of my writing talent and entrepreneurial spirit, I co-founded Love Wins Publishing and the Youth Author’s Club (Y.A.C.), with my wife, Tanya, who is also an author and entrepreneur.

My story is one of purpose and overcoming. I have many talents and gifts, yet always struggled to identify which to put to use. Obstacles in my past tried to prevent me from getting to where I am now. I attribute my faith in God and the prayers of my mother and wife for me being where I am in this season.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have gone through a lot but I now choose to focus on the positive and not the negative. However, I will say that I overcame the street life, drugs, homelessness, and divorce. I was diagnosed with PTSD from military service and I am walking out my healing from that as well as my other life experiences.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an artist. I am an Illustrator. I am a story developer and I am a self-published author. My wife and I started a publishing company when she wrote her first book in 2018. Since then, we have published several of her books, a book we authored together (Ignite: Create Intimacy and Better Sex), my daughter’s book (Mya the Alligator), my stepson’s book (Tall Tales by the NOT SO Average Kid), and we have helped more than 100 writers become first-time authors. We recently published my novel, The Entries of the Black Sails. I have another book releasing very soon, an anthology titled, “Brutal Courage,” about men who have overcome trauma such as abuse, addiction, police brutality, racism, and more.

The company is called Love Wins Publishing. It was birthed from a vision of a marriage ministry that God gave to my wife & I, called Love Wins. The Bible says that love covers a multitude of sins. It also says that love conquers all. Since love covers and conquers, love wins! Our company is founded on this principle. We take care of our clients and their projects the way we would want our projects to be taken care of. We specialize in anthologies and autobiographies but have published many other book types and genres. The goal is to make a difference and to help others realize and live their dreams.

Speaking of dreams, a part of my dream will be birthed as a result of the men’s anthology project. I am creating a program and organization for men to mentor younger men and boys, especially those without fathers. B.O.S.S. Moves is the first program under the organization I am starting. B.O.S.S. is an acronym for Business Opportunities and Strategies for Success. This program is designed to equip men and boys with entrepreneurial support and skills to succeed as community and world leaders. We currently offer writing and financial literacy with plans on expanding. Under the writing portion there are opportunities to become self-published authors; under the financial literacy portion we educate participants on how to become the primary investor of their money. I have a vision and it is huge. It is so much bigger than me and I know the things I have gone through came to stop me from walking in my purpose, but with God on my side what is inside of me cannot be stopped.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am proud of my book “The Entries of the Black Sails.” It’s more than 90,000 words and 500 pages. I have written songs and stories in the past but this project is special to me because it is a vision I had and it has come to pass. I started and I finished. This is the first time I completed something of this magnitude. It is a major accomplishment for me.

I designed the cover. I helped with the editing. It is my book! The way it was revealed to me and the way the storyline was downloaded into my heart and mind was surreal. I created the characters, their names, and all. My wife gave me an idea. It was as if she planted a seed and God watered it. Now, it has been produced.
