Meet Rae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Mystic.

Rae, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
There is no easy way to speak my story, being a multi-artist each facet of everything I do has such a unique story!

Photographically – I grew up with a camera in hand everywhere I went. Capturing every single moment of my life. I shot my first photo gig in 2010. I went to Fullerton College where I graduated with my degree in Photography in 2014 hustling my way to being a fulltime photographer now!

Musically – I learned how to read at three because my mom was a KJ in Orange County, she put me in front of a karaoke screen with a mic & that’s where both reading and singing started. I was involved with Musical Theatre & performance from age 3-12. I quit singing publically from ages 12-21 because of a Musical Theatre audition in middle school I didn’t make because I was “Alternative”. I wasn’t used to a program rejection, of course, I could handle rejection, I felt discouraged because I didn’t think I could be my self and be a performer. When I was 21 I decided it was my soul purpose to sing! I joined a couple of bands (which I am no longer apart of now) but those bands helped me grow so much into what I know now about music!

In 2016 My best friend and her fiance had gifted me a ukulele for my birthday (Christmas eve) I stayed up all night teaching myself how to play. In early 2017 due to the pain of heartbreak (typical right?), I started writing my own music, which is now the EP “Falling for the Art” dropping in December 2019! Completely inspired by what got me to write in the first place. Falling in love so hard that even if it hurts, it gave me words to write & songs to sing.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was ready to start my own businesses at age 15. The first struggle was being young with limited resources to create what I would dream of creating. You could say I grew up a kitchy artsy goth girl…at the time that wasn’t very approachable, and I didn’t have a krew of like-minded people to network with.

My main struggles now have been the fact I wear so many hats. I love being a jack of all trades. I am so passionate about all of the work I am involved in, however, I’ve felt I can not be taken seriously because my eggs are in so many baskets. However, my work and my art are my life. Every piece of what I do I give 110%!

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
“Rae Mystic” came to me in 2016, I thought it would be used like the word “Fantastic”. like “OH THAT’S RAE MYSTIC”

I am a photographer, vocalist, multi-media artist.

I specialize in not only business and content creation, but when it comes to photographing people, my goal is for everyone to feel beautiful as they are and create an experience from the moment we meet until the moment photos are received.

I am able to ride the spectrum of beautiful and colorful, to weird and macabre.

In one day I could shoot corporate headshots, make someone a business card, but then the next day shoot a femme devil in my bathtub full of blood, then the next week shoot an engagement, and possibly a trippy colorful boudoir babe.

I have also photographed concerts and proceed to PLAY (sing) the same night, at the same place.

I am known for doing ALL OF THE THINGS & someone making it all work, and enjoying every moment of the chaos.

I work really well on the fly, for example- I recently shot a corporate event doing photo and video – and they needed a sound person on the fly….luckily I know how to run a PA!

I feel special because somehow I find the energy and motivation to be of service in so many ways, just to make people’s lives easier, or more beautiful & never hate a moment of it. It’s like falling in love and the honeymoon phase never ended! (even in the chaos).
