Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Miriam.
Rachel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started this company as a way of overcoming post-partum after my son Graham was born. I’ve always been an entrepreneur and a go-getter, believing in my ability to create something from nothing and maintain a successful business.
However, when my son was born I completely lost my identity and my sense of independence. I didn’t want to sacrifice what I know I’m capable of just because I became a mother. Starting this business became my creative opportunity to pursue my passions outside of motherhood. I bought a tiny embroidery machine, put it on m kitchen table, and sewed while my son was asleep. Graham joined me in our stroller deliveries, I organized meetings during nap time and strapped him in a carrier during buying trips. It was exhilarating to have a passion that gave me an additional purpose each day. Each year he aged, I had more time to hustle and grow my business while incorporating lessons learned from motherhood into a well-structured company. Patiently, that journey has let me to where I am now.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an entrepreneur and business owner, it has not always been a smooth road, but it has been an incredible journey with ups and downs. I am constantly learning new things, introducing myself to new people, while simultaneously remembering why I started this company. Rachel Miriam began as a passion project, and no matter how big and busy we become, I don’t let myself forget that. It is all about doing what you love.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Every collection Rachel Miriam launches is a collaboration that benefits an incredible nonprofit. My company takes curated collections of personalized items, pairs them with a celebrity – or as I like to call them an Ambassador, who then chooses a nonprofit they are passionate about to benefit from a percentage of sales from each item sold in the collection. I’m incredibly passionate about raising awareness and funds for nonprofits, but recognize that it’s hard for others to make a difference alone. My goal is to help people give back by shopping!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far is watching my company grow from a new mom hobby on my little kitchen counter, to a full on corporation with multiple employees, a shipping and fulfillment department, marketing directors and machine operators. I had no idea where my little idea would take me, but to see how much it’s grown is mind-blowing. There are many amazing moments in my career so far, but the one that makes me feel the best is having a team that cares about me, this business, and our customers. My absolute proudest moment is walking into the office everyday and seeing my amazing team working so hard to make everything perfect. I couldn’t do anything without my team, and the fact that they love their job brings me to tears. We’re such an incredible team and we all care about each other. Knowing that I am changing their lives, their families lives— I feel so full with gratitude that they want to be here everyday helping to make my dreams and visions come true. The work they do impacts people all over the world, from customers to the nonprofits we work with, and I can’t wait to see what more we can do together!
