Meet Rachel Autumn of Pause Play Wellness in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Autumn.

Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Baltimore-bred, Los Angeles-based athlete, performer, entrepreneur, human, & healer. Growing up, I was always a very goofy, prankster, fun & music-loving child that enjoyed dancing, school, service, and making others happy. Today I am literally that same little girl just inside a 27-year-old body and probably a little less cute but hey, you can’t have it all right? Just kidding, I’m still very cute in my opinion.

My life has truly been an adventure and I would not change one moment. Upon graduating from the University of Richmond in 2014 with a Bachelor’s in Social Entrepreneurship, I was at a crossroads. Do I pursue dance professionally or do I go straight into the non-profit world I felt I was destined to be at some point in my life. I chose dance which brought me to New York City and eventually, Los Angeles where I ended up settling in 2016. As a dancer, nothing is guaranteed and the pool is extremely competitive so as I continued training and planting seeds for the dance career of my dreams, I decided to begin working on another dream: helping others find balance through personal training.

I began teaching fitness classes and leading private clients for a couple of well-respected boutique studios for the next four years. I have truly thrived as a trainer, but the deeper I got into that work, the farther away from dance I grew. Not intentionally, but energetically I was depleted and had not left much room for other passions to come into existence. That’s when 2020 arrived & knocked me and everyone else on our hind-parts so we could learn a lesson or 50. I injured my back a month prior to the pandemic, completely taking me out of my routine and forcing me to heal and literally slow down…more like stop the rat race I had been running. While in this recovery process, I decided to truly take my healing seriously. In addition to the physical rehab I was experiencing, I took myself through a spiritual rehab as well using everything from prayer and meditation to crystal healing and energy work. These tools had been in my arsenal prior to this moment, but I had not implemented them into a daily practice or routine. It was during a meditation in my new morning practice that Pause Play Wellness came to me as clear as day.

Pause Play Wellness is an extension of me and my own core values of wanting and creating space for both pause and play in my life. Once I realized that one cannot exist without the other, I knew that I would be able to hold space for others using the same tools that helped me find bliss and balance in my life again, but with my own spin on it. When I began to truly implement these ideals into my own practice, I came back into alignment with everything that brings me joy again and I experience less resistance and much more ease in how I move through my day and my life. Through energy healing and yoga training, I am now helping people find balance through addressing their health on all levels: spiritual, emotional, and physical. My work now helps others return to all the things that their inner child has always wanted…to feel loved, seen, respected, and to have permission to experience joy in all things they do.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has by no means been a smooth-sailing journey. I’ve learned that the hardest part is getting out of my own way! That the biggest obstacles I face, I have placed there myself. Now, that does not mean that systemically everything is all roses and rainbows, it is definitely not. It is a challenge to be a Black Woman in America talking about health, wellness, and joy because for so long, there have been systems that have tried to rob my people and many other groups of our basic human rights to live and thrive. So while that does absolutely come into play in the unfolding and blooming of my life & business, I also know that so much of what challenges me is of my own mental clutter and inner dialogue.

My secret to navigating these challenges has been talking to God daily, establishing boundaries, learning to say no, unlearning lack mentality, perfectionism, and people-pleasing, and making choices from a heart-centered space. Having a self-care practice where I truly love the hell out of myself has made all the difference in my life because at the end of the day, it’s just me dwelling here in this body. I have more control over my body than I think, and if I love and honor this home of mine, I attract love and honor from everywhere else. The work that I now do professionally with others is exactly what I use to my personal practice and are evolving as I evolve.

Please tell us about Pause Play Wellness.
Pause Play Wellness (PPW) offers integrative energy healing and yoga training both one-on-one and in group sessions. Our mission is to create pathways that ultimately bring people home to themselves. When we take the time to pause and nurture our inner wellness, we can create space for more play and joy in our lives! Through my own experiences, certifications, and training with well-respected leaders in the health, healing and wellness industries, I learned that so much of the imbalances we experience from pain and suffering to dis-ease and distress is directly linked to trauma that has been stored in the body sometimes for many generations.

Your healing experience with Pause Play Wellness begins when you first visit our site and fill out an intake form that asks you to call your inner child forward. PPW then uniquely guides your healing through a combination of intention-setting, guided meditation accompanied by soulful music, the facilitation of healing, grounding, and discussion of next steps. Experiences vary from person to person, but many leave with a deep sensation of relaxation, a better understanding of their body’s chakra system, reduced stress and anxiety, relief from physical pain, and a more empowered sense of self.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have done it sooner! I really held off in launching for a while because I wanted to be sure I had everything thought completely through. But the reality is that much of this process will reveal itself to you as you go, so you must START somewhere. I would have trusted my intuition sooner and trusted that I was not being led anywhere that I had no business being. That would be my advice for myself and for anyone else just starting out launching their own business, however, I also believe everything happens when it happens for a reason. I believe ultimately, my business came to life at the perfect time in my personal path as well as where we are as a collective and what this world needs so deeply right now.
