Meet Rachael Kester of MINDBODY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Kester.

Rachael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I moved to Los Angeles five years ago, I totally immersed myself in the fitness scene. I was on the search for like-minded people, a new routine, and a way to see new parts of town while having unique experiences. I was hitting up a new fitness studio nightly and knew that I had to share this newfound passion with the world.

At the time, I had just finished three years with Teach For America in Memphis, TN, and I was working full time at a small nonprofit in Sherman Oaks. My day job allowed me to make a difference in the lives of lower-income children, and my passion project was a gateway to changing my own body and mind. I never thought the two would intersect so seamlessly.

Five years and four days later, my path led me to MINDBODY as the LA Marketing Manager. After working in a nonprofit for eight years, I am now blessed that my dream job allows me to change lives and help small business owners while working in a field in which I feel fulfilled.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me, I find it challenging knowing when to move on from a role or company. I grow very attached to the mission and people and fear the uncertainty that comes from a new job. Thankfully, I’ve been very blessed that my two roles since parting with my first nonprofit came to me when I wasn’t even looking. They were both perfect fits, and while I was still scared to death of leaving each time, the outcomes were more than worth the uncertainty.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
MINDBODY is a brand that practices what we preach. We want to connect the world to wellness, and we practice wellness both inside and outside of the office. It’s not unusual to be catching a mid-day spin class or visiting a customer and getting a massage there to support them.

In my role, I am able to meet our MINDBODY customers where they are, really learning about their hopes, dreams, and pain points. Armed with this knowledge, I find resources that can help them thrive. Whether it’s a speaker from Google or an expert on customer retention, I become the business’s biggest cheerleader.

Our MINDBODY app also sets us apart from others. We are a one-stop-shop for all of the best fitness, wellness, and integrative health experiences not just in LA, but all over the country. It’s my favorite app to use when I travel, as I can source and book all from one place. We are committed to not only our mission but also our customers.

What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
I would love to say that my favorite childhood memory involved something fitness or health-related, but truth be told I didn’t find myself in this space until six years ago. My favorite childhood memories include travel and family. Growing up, we would spend summers on the beach in Holland visiting my dad’s family. Seeing new places, getting to experience a different country and culture, and living like the locals (riding bikes everywhere, spending entire days at the beach). It was such an amazing way to grow up!
