Meet Quknhiya Hill of Pinkcoboutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quknhiya Hill.

Quknhiya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I love telling this story actually, I started my business at the age of 14 years old. I didn’t grow up in a two parent household which made me see things differently. I saw how hard my mom worked to keep float when it came to priorities so it made me want to make things easier on her. I’m the oldest of five, imagine that At first I honestly didn’t know what I was doing but I taught myself along the way. I did pre-orders. I only had $100 to my name & I made my first 1k the same month doing pre-orders. I was so amazed and blessed to reach a peak like that on my own being 14. I hit a lot of obstacles due to me being 14, Paypal wouldn’t work with me nor Stripe. I had to take a break, refund a lot of my customers due to the money not releasing, but I didn’t give up. I found alternative routes such as Apple Pay Zelle & Cash App. It took a lot of trusts to use these payment processors due to customers going through scamming with other businesses.

I reached the age to work at 15. My first job was Zaxbys, sophomore year… a surprise popped up as well. I was 15 & pregnant. Being that, it made me go harder with everything. Work was my second home, I was dedicated no time off. I worked there up until my water broke the next day. Being on leave for two months I took another break to be with my son Siah. After resting, I then returned but in my senior year, I left Zaxbys & went to Chick Fil A. My senior year was tough, emotionally & physically. I had a half schedule, so I would always choose work over a “free day”. A year in I noticed a lot of things… I wanted more. My last “straw” was when I worked overtime being part-time and in school & barely made $700. A few months later, I left & took faith with only having my business as my income in 2019. My revenue increased & so did my audience, I had to invest in getting storage which I called my mini warehouse 2020. Before the investment, I worked out of my room, living room & a hot/cold garage. The storage idea came overnight like a lightbulb. I decorated it nicely & made it comfortable to work in. I also fulfilled my orders & did pick up orders as well there. By grace, my audience grew more & they wanted more. I decided to look for storefronts for months, I ran into one I got scammed, the second one it was a great area but it didn’t accommodate my needs for my boutique. I then remembered a time when I got my makeup done where my boutique is & I thought to myself, “you’re ahead of the game. It was a good area & a lot of exposure.

Later I called every day until I received a call back to view. The minute I saw it, I told myself I can make it work & there I was 20 years old opening a boutique on Oct 16.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, no. It wasn’t a smooth road. I encountered many obstacles but the obstacles didn’t break me; they made me better. As I stated before, I had problems with PayPal and stripe. I would get a lot of orders in and they would think that fraud was in place so I had to refund every single last customer due to the money not releasing

I was known as that girl who got bullied because of her teeth throughout grade school even sometimes being an adult.

What sets me apart from others is that I’m just me and I carry a different story.

Starting a business is the easiest part, being dedicated and driven is the hardest.

I’m proud of my brand coming this far and then I have amazing supporters who has been along this journey with me as well if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today and I couldn’t be more appreciative for that.

My brand is fun & expressive. there is no distinctive style

What makes you happy?
My son & business plays a big part in my happiness. I’m driven to be the best that I can be for my son and to be able to provide him a better lifestyle that I lived.
