Today we’d like to introduce you to PRYSM. Them and their team share their story with us below:

PRYSM – consists of; Gerardo (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) Martin (Lead Guitar) Robert (Bass) Rudy (Drummer). The band was established in the summer of 2018 when Rudy responded to an online ad that the rest of the members posted via Instagram. After a few months of practicing without a drummer, Prysm had their first official practice in Boyle Heights. After some time we began practicing in a garage in Montebello where most of our songs and recordings are still done to this today.

During the early days, we focused on writing, rehearsing and establishing that connection as a band. As time went by and started playing shows, we noticed an interest for our music due to our eclectic sound. 2019 was spent mostly in the Inland Empire (MoVal, Riverside) area. The crowds in those areas are crazy, wild and everything you’d expect from a Rock N Roll scene.

Just as we were getting the ball rolling, 2020-2021 came around and halted the entire music scene due to COVID. Definitely unfortunate but a very much-needed break because we then had time to focus on practicing and working out new ideas. During this time we met our new bassist (Rob) who met (Rudy) in another band they were both playing in. Unfortunately, that band was simply not working out and Prysm was in search for a new bassist so the best move was to recruit Rob and let him shine and show his skills. Since then he’s inspired and motivated us to keep going as a band.

2022 is going great for us! We have some projects lined up this summer and are ready to continue to perform & show everyone how tight we sound. We’ve put in the hard work and effort and now’s the time to let the crowd feel our music!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We’ve been a band for four years now so we’ve definitely faced a few challenges, from popping strings to having a car give out on us before the show, learning the skill to record, and practicing at 1 am. We’ve seen a lot of weird wicked stuff out the road but yet somehow some way, we figure out how to get on that stage.

The scene in SoCal. is doing well but it’s difficult for any band in this day in age to turn this into a career.

Most listeners are into other sorts of music and sensitive to loud, wild music but we strive to keep the heart and soul of Rock & Roll alive and believe the scene has a future.

There is definitely a euphoric experience of watching a live band play that can’t be replicated and we are pleased to bring the next generation of Rock & Roll.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are best experienced when listened to live and what’s best about us is that we don’t write the same song twice. Respectfully, Indie bands play Indie music, Punk bands play Punk music, etc… we have a diverse catalog, just listen to “Blue Moon” & “Death and the Miser.” Our music really is its own sound because we all are influenced by different music which is what sets us apart and lets us shake up a crowd. Prior to a gig, we think of a setlist that would suit the event so it changes every show. Aside from that, we all click very well with one another. Gerardo comes up really good solid ideas, his ideas can be intricate or simple, it’s very Rock n Roll & catchy. Rudy adds the right beat at the right time, every time. By having a double pedal system he adds that extra layer to our sound. Rob is just a quick learner that can play anything whether it be groovy, funky or straight-up rock. Martin shines with his brilliant solos and leads. Anyone who has seen Martin play live knows exactly how much energy he puts into his parts.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality for a band to have regardless of the genre is communication. When we are all on the same page we fire on all eight cylinders, aside from that just have fun! At the end of the day, we play the music for you to enjoy. The party comes after the show. We know long as we’re true to our craft and are humble with everyone we know good things will come naturally.
