Today we’d like to introduce you to Priya Jain.
Priya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Seventh Chakra Yoga was born from a calling. For those who have ever experienced and surrendered in action to a calling in their life, will resonate in agreement, that when a calling arrives, it arrives, in defiance to logic, timing or resources. The call that was to be Seventh Chakra Yoga and its work with humanity, was no different. This calling arrived at a time, when my carefully organized life was coming apart at the seams. All that kept me grounded and present to deal with the challenges of each day, was my strong practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation that was a mandatory process of the Kundalini Teacher Training that I was enrolled in at the time. The practical application of strengthening the Nervous System through the Kriyas (pre-formulated set of exercises to ensure movement and balance of pranic energy in the body) balanced with a multitude of Meditation techniques to train the mind for clarity, quietness and focus, made me feel abundant and whole, while in contrast, I seemed to be losing everything in the outer world.
Slowly the calling, that was once a laughable thought, took root deeply in my being. Through the powerful practice of Kundalini Yoga and meditation, I was beginning to break through some of my deep emotional and psychological entanglements. This allowed me to remain mindfully present as I navigated myself and my son out of the challenge and into a clearing, where for the first time in my life, I understood what it meant to feel FREE. ~ Priya Jain
We all crave that sense of individuation and self-ownership but layers of conditioned response patterning in our psyche, keeps us looped in the strife and struggle mode. Only after my own awakening, was I able to see how many of us are locked up in this self-perpetuating cycle of stress, fear, pain, hope, desire, dejection and anxiety.
Motivated and encouraged, I decided to continue to learn, practice and teach this incredible science of the body mind and soul. “If I, a person who has never meditated in my life before, can experience such an amazing shift in outlook and sense of wellbeing in the midst of a storm, with this technology called Kundalini Yoga and Meditation,” I thought, “then everybody must know about it, practice it and harmonize their lives.”
That laid the foundation to the humble beginnings of Seventh Chakra Yoga. The studio is founded on the firm foundation of practicality of spirituality. This is where the rubber meets the road. With my now husband, Peter, joining in the adventure, we have blossomed into two locations, slowly and patiently guiding people into their own self awakening.
The evidence of impact of the universal applicability of Kundalini Yoga and Meditation is clearly witnessed by us each day as we see firsthand, people’s lives transforming and having incredible ripple effects on everyone around them. 8 years into its existence, Seventh Chakra Yoga has become a home of love, upliftment, service, relaxation and rejoicing to thousands of people who have walked through its doors.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are no other Kundalini Yoga Studios in Orange County. Being a pioneer to present a new and yet untried model of Yoga and meditation is always challenging. Since this is not the “popular” form of Yoga in the West, which leads more to the “Fitness” aspect of yoga and shuns the deeper aspects of it, creating and providing resources for its continued survival, is always a balancing act.
Please tell us about Seventh Chakra Yoga.

Kundalini Yoga practice is a process of transformation. Using specific set of exercises (Kriyas) to stimulate and organize pranic energy, you are delivered to a specific energetic state — particularly one of greater awareness. Also within the practice are built-in moments of stillness where we sit quietly and awaken to our Self. The breath work within the kriyas is so powerful that it starts to strip away the layers that veil our consciousness, and in the sweet moments between poses we can sense the fullness of who we are. The kriyas work on strengthening the nervous system, balancing the glandular system, purifying the body and calming the mind. Almost everyone who has practiced Kundalini Yoga and Meditation with an open mind, has experienced sensations of bliss, feeling naturally high and filled with a sense of connection and joy. Various techniques of meditation (Silent, pranayama, mantra and Naad) are used to provoke and confront the very core of who you are, both physically and mentally.
Meditations within Kundalini yoga are multifaceted. You can do the simplest forms, such as breath awareness or simple mantra, or explore more elaborate meditations where there is a specific breath, mantra and mudra that all work together to balance different aspects of the mind and body. When practiced for 40–120 days, the result is pure magic! Kundalini yoga is not to be taken lightly. It is like an express train that shakes and wakes you up. We sincerely encourage you to have an experience of Kundalini yoga for yourself. It will add depth and richness to your existing experience of life.
We are most proud of the beautiful heart centered community that has created itself in and around Seventh Chakra. People often tell us, how they feel relief just walking through the doors, to connect with likeminded people who are not only wanting to understand and practice a life of awareness but are also very REAL. The masks drop at the door and all that remains is indulgence in Real SELF essence.
What sets us apart, is our absolute commitment and dedication to the upliftment of each student who is willing to do the Self work, both inner and outer. The safe and yet gently encouraging environment that allows the masks to drop and deep healing to take place in people’s lives. The experience through the Yoga complimented with understanding through Yogic philosophy and the wisdom guidance of the Teachers. Each of the Teachers at Seventh Chakra Yoga, teaches because they love to share the blessing that has transformed their own life.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
