Meet Princess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princess.

Princess, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Raised by a bomb ass single mommy in Oakland, CA…I began dancing before I could walk & never stopped. I became a dance teacher at 15 and eventually went to college at University of the Arts in Philly. After graduating college, I started auditioning for agencies, music videos, tours, tv shows, movies, and everything in between.

I danced for Beyonce, produced a reality show about professional dancers, choreographed for the amazing, Kelly Rowland. I did this while simultaneously taking classes to become certified to be an arts teacher in the K-12 school system, then I took on additional education for children w/ special needs and children under three. After surviving several near-death experiences, I took my trauma and decided to graduate from Peace Over Violence as a domestic violence/sexual assault advocate. I then became the director of a dance studio and started a new career in acting. Check me out in the latest Diet Coke commercial & upcoming movie I Got the HookUP 2! LOL! I’ve been busy but humbled by the life God has given me. I am nowhere near where I want to be, but I am on the ride and I refuse to get off anytime soon!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth?? Besides a loving mother, nothing in my life has been smooth.

I am a survivor of horrific domestic violence & sexual assault, at one point I remember auditioning with a black eye and cracked rib because I was so broke but wouldn’t let the abuse break me. My bestie covered up my bruises with Dermablend before we hit the stage, right after my other bestie took me to the ER. We left and I went right to school to teach my muffins the next morning.

The repeated heartbreak, experiencing the deaths of so many family & friends, being broke af, I was “blacklisted” at one point in my professional dance career, I was called fat/ugly so many times, I got numb to it. I got hit by a car and had a tumor removed within weeks of each other while still trying to “Make It”. Overwhelmed, I felt very much alone while dealing with all of this.

The beautiful power in it is that it made me incredibly resilient. The struggle has also given me the ability to be the teacher that my students can tell ANYTHING to, Survivors of abuse can openly share their stories with me without worry & I have lots of emotions to pull from & use in my art. While it may be easier to fall into depression, despair and self-pity…….I have used it to be of service to others instead. That makes all the struggle WORTH IT! Even in your own darkness, one can be a blessing to others.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I bring top quality performing arts education to children all over Cali! For the 2018-2019 school year alone, I had over 135 students. We put on at least 15 performances from my pre-k class theatre production of Frozen, 1st grade cheerleaders performing at their 1st football game, my Kindergarten dance team auditioning for, booking & performing at their school talent show, my 2nd grade dance class had their 1st jazz dance competition, my 2-4yr olds put on a performance of the Descendants and we still have 2 recitals left for the year! Then, Summer Camp starts right after. I am proud of each of my muffins! Most artists have hard time teaching young kids, but I LOVE THEM. If you can work with children, you can truly do anything God throws your way!! 🙂

Survivors never be ashamed to call the National Domestic Violence hotline and know that there is someone on the other line who understands and cares. The resources available to you can be life-saving & life changing. You Matter, you are Seen and you are LOVED!

I am also an actively auditioning actress. Book Me! Book Me! BOOK ME! LOL!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My Resiliency & My Love of the Arts and my absolute love for my MUFFINS! Jesus kept me, so I have to make this life have purpose outside of myself.
