Today we’d like to introduce you to Possemobap.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Dayton, OH raised in South Phoenix, AZ. Music and arts was something I always excelled in but I was also a promising athlete as a child and through high school so it never was my main focus. I originally started playing instruments around the age of 5. Fluent in piano and guitar. My father was a well-known producer when I was a child and his uncle was a well-known bass player in many groups. So those two pretty much taught me all there was to know about music and theory. I started making clothes when I was around 10. This was around the Ed Hardy era when I would make drawings and then render them on to t-shirts on the computer. I really learned more by failing in business and just getting out there and trying different things then I have learned from any one source. I’ve always been an entrepreneur in my own way since a child and music & arts have always interested me. Now I am an artist, producer, writer, and model. It so crazy how they all tie in together now but they do. I have written on multiple projects and now I am worrying more about my artistry.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road but anything worth having isn’t easy to obtain. 2019 has been one of the best years for me business-wise but also in 2019 my house burned down, I was incarcerated, and I was stabbed in a robbery. Things that I would never fathom happening to “me”. I am a firm believer that God gives his toughest challenges to his strongest soldiers. I could very easily not be here to give this interview but I am and I believe it’s for a reason. There are so many people that are from where I am from but haven’t had the opportunities I have been blessed with. And for that, I am forever grateful.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
So I am a musician, writer, producer. My company has other music writers, film writers, managers, producers and artist as well. I am so proud that we are where we are and everyone is dong well. POSSEMOB isn’t a gang, where more than just a business, we are a family.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is when I won a game in the 5th grade and I had scored five touchdowns and my father just said he was proud of me. Growing up the way I did, I didn’t always give my mother and father reasons to say they were proud of me but I remember that hug and him saying he was proud of me til this day vividly.
