Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Nguyen.
Nancy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to DTLA five years ago and loved the VIBE of the city – from meeting amazing local businesses that became friends with, to building a great circle of the community of friends!!
I noticed where I live in the Historic Core area – there were very few nail salons that met my standards of quality and the local feel. From the moment I had the opportunity to open a nail salon on 6th and Spring – I did it! So in February 2017, I opened Polished Nail Bar… it’s been a learning curve of building the business but thru it all – I am thankful, and I love my team, that I can call family and my clients that I can call family as well.
Hand in hand – it takes clients, a great team, quality and smiles to make a great local business. I love being a LOCAL and big supporter of LOCAL businesses. The Historic Core and all the surrounding Burroughs in LA have become a beautiful, diverse family and community. Where we can walk out of our business and say hi to our local neighbors and local business owners.
Has it been a smooth road?
The challenges is always building the business from day one – one client at a time and earning their trust with their beauty needs. Along with finding the right team to help you build it… I’ve had great techs to bad techs along the way.
The goal was to always try our utmost best to make every client happy, but in retail beauty, specific demands can be over and beyond what we can do… as long as I know my team tried their best… I have to accept that balance.
As a particular client my self – I can understand super picky clients needs, but on the other hand, I have to also feel and respect my technician’s feelings too.
It becomes the balance to make both sides happy to sustain a happy environment for clients and technicians, which I strive every day! And always to make the salon better and better every day…
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Polished Nail Bar in DTLA – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in every aspect of nails and, waxing services. I try to bring in the most updated products for the demand of clients. We do a lot of acrylic nails, dipping powders, gel mani/pedi, mani/pedi, and luxury spa services. I also have licensed wax technicians as well for all waxing services.
I’m truly proud that I found a great team of techs that’s I care about deeply and great clients that have been a part of our growth. Of course, every owner wants to survive in any business and wants to continue to grow.
What sets me apart?! I love happy clients, happy employees. And I love being a local resident and a local business…
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love the everchanging of DTLA from all the new restaurants, bars, hotels and venues that pop up so quickly. Being a local makes me feel the change of DTLA for the future and makes me feel as we are a mini mini mini NY. Love being able to walk everywhere for all my needs.
I wish there were more that can be done with the homelessness, but it’s going by the pace it is… I’m involved and know friends in those social service arena.. hope that helps with this question…
