Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenssy Martin.
Jenssy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I spent most of my life trying to fit in and find my crowd but somehow it almost felt like a competition against others trying to fit in too. Even when I found the rockabilly community and the pinup world, I realized that we spend so much time comparing ourselves to others and competing against each other instead of supporting and empowering each other. Especially as women, I wanted us to unite and be kind to each other. I wanted to create a safe space for all where they can be themselves and feel welcome. An inclusive space to empower each other and change the world with one kind deed at a time thus I created Pinups with Heart.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. I still encounter resistance and competition but I try to react by being kind to myself and others. Understanding that our behaviors come from our past experiences and traumas. Always keeping an inclusive environment regardless of gender, race, age or beliefs. The most important thing in a person is who they are within. I only ask for one thing from my members: just be kind.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Pinups with Heart is a group I created to share kindness and one way we do that is by collaborating with other organizations and helping them fundraise for their cause. We have helped fundraise for causes like blood cancers and immigration. We also organize Pinup Contests that differ from others because we focus on who the person is and their merit rather than popularity.
We are always willing to lend a helping hand and do our part to give back to our community.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I definitely would like Pinups with Heart to receive more opportunities to make a difference and leave a positive mark in the world. I would like to become a non-profit and help more people in need as well as become a symbol of love and kindness amongst the community and all those looking to find their tribe.
