Meet Paulishia Augillard of Polly Clinical Services in Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paulishia Augillard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Paulishia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I had a dream of being a business owner from a very young age. I knew that I wanted to help people but didn’t know in what capacity. Listening to others and helping to solve problems is natural to me, so I followed the path to become a licensed professional counselor with a specialization in marriage and family therapy.

In 2016, I took a leap of faith and opened my private practice Polly Clinical Services. I quickly learned that it takes a lot to operate a private practice such as marketing, credentialing of insurance panels, and most importantly capital to operate! Through triumphs and challenges, Polly Clinical Services continues to provide outpatient teletherapy services to adults and couples dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Some of the challenges that occurred were to ensure that my appointment book was full because, without client appointments, the business could not survive. This challenge caused me to be creative and participate in community and corporate events to market Polly Clinical Services. Another challenge that occurred throughout the process was not having enough time to do all of the responsibilities of running a business. One of the important takeaways in working in corporate America was learning how to sink or swim. I developed an internship program that allows for students pursuing a business or psychology degree to learn about all aspects of being a business owner while assisting Polly Clinical Services in completing tasks such as marketing, conducting client intakes, etc.

Please tell us about Polly Clinical Services.
Polly Clinical Services is a for-profit company. I am the CEO and provide outpatient mental health services through teletherapy. I help adults and couples dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression to manage the daily challenges of life. I am most proud that I am a woman-owned small business that has impacted the community in a great way! My competitive edge from others is that I have also had challenges in mental health dealing with depression. Each client that I work with learns from our initial conversation that I have also been on the other side of the couch. The space that I have created is non-hierarchical which establishes rapport and authenticity.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have saved enough capital to have started my business, however, I would not take away any of the challenges that I have endured as it has made me who I am today. I have learned how to be sustainable even in difficult times and to not compare my business journey with others. I am successful because I don’t quit!
