Meet Paula Bennett of Paula Crochet Fashion in Torrance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paula Bennett.

Paula, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My mom and teacher introduced me to the art world. My mom encouraged me to learn all types of art. Crochet, Knitting, Sewing, Wood carving and Macramé. She believed that learning art and being creative was a way for the world to enjoy colors and at the same time keep busy.

I started to crochet doilies and then learned to crochet wearable garments. At the same time I would pass my knowledge down to others that wanted to learn. I teach free arts (crochet, knitting, and sewing) to adults and kids. I learned to write my crochet patterns and sell them online on my website and Etsy. My designs include crochet wedding gowns, evening dresses, halters and suits.

In 2017 I started to work with colorful glass. By fusing colorful glass, I have made jewelry, bowls and ornaments. Creating doors, panels, lamps shades and chandelier lamp shade with the art of stain glass is another way for me to enjoy colorful art.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am lucky with Paula Crochet Fashion because I did not have any obstacle. My one challenge has always been to make enough money to keep Paula Crochet Fashion alive. That’s why it’s a hobby business and a way for me to keep being creative and also give back to others. I laugh and tell people it’s a way for me to not pay a therapist. Creating art relaxes the mind.

Please tell us about Paula Crochet Fashion.
I make crochet Patterns to sell online. Stain glass art, fused glass, jewelry. I am mostly proud about my crochet patterns because I help customers to make one of a kind designs. What sets me apart is that my designs are custom and I teach people to make their own designs. My new stain glass art will be selling on my website for the holidays.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have a large art store and offer free classes to everyone. Keep creating Art and make the world a colorful place with a big smile for all.
