Meet Paul Little of Get Shamrocked

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Little.

Paul, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Get Shamrocked Irish Music Festival was founded in 2013 and 2018 will be the sixth festival in a row to be held at Town Square Park, Murrieta. This fantastic venue provides the perfect setting with free parking and a flat, grassed area with a huge stage and natural amphitheater. From our humble beginnings in 2013 where we attracted 3.5K over 2 days the festival has grown and in 2017 attracted 7k over the 2 days. The festival is all about the music with a variety of Celtic rock, punk/folk/contemporary & traditional music.

Business partners Paul Little (Manchester UK) & Graham Judge (Dublin, Ireland) created the event after opening The Shamrock Irish Pub & Eatery in Murrieta (Dec 2012). The pair quickly realized the love in California for all things Irish and decided an Irish Festival in September would be an ideal way to spread the word about Murrieta and the fantastic venue (Town Square Park) it had to facilitate that. Paul & Graham met Patrick Ellis (first generation Irish) CEO of the Murrieta Chamber of Commerce and together they plotted the start of an Irish festival that has grown every year since inception.

Get Shamrocked is now recognized as the biggest Irish music festival on the West Coast and plans are underway to have the very first Get Shamrocked Las Vegas in 2019.

• Waste Management classed us as the greenest and most eco-friendly festival in 2016.
• Magners Cider is new for 2017 is the #1 Irish cider in the world.
• The Cullen Connolly stage is a tribute to a child and Irish music lover who lost his life in a drink driver tragedy. All tips at the bar go to non-profit Tiffany’s Gift Foundation.
• Paddy Rock Radio has voted Get Shamrocked the best Irish festival in the USA three years in a row.
• • Ballast Point Brewing Company from San Diego

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The challenges as with any new festival is getting the first one off the ground and making it an experience that people want to return to. Southern California has so many events and things happening that they are a “last minute” booking audience and in the early days you are reliant on the “walk-in” crowd.

Making people understand what an Irish music festival is all about is another challenge. People are unaware that the music embraces not just traditional Irish music but covers rock, contemporary, folk & punk. Attracting the mass audiences from LA and San Diego is another challenge but due to the growth in the Temecula Valley of the wineries, there is more than enough accommodation to supplement future growth.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Get Shamrocked – what should we know?
We specialize in giving people a unique experience. Irish/Celtic music is simply fun and we are proud that after five festivals there has never been on arrest or misdemeanor from the thousands of fans that have attended.

Our main sponsors are Guinness, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Magners Cider all #1 brands in their respective fields and alcohol and Celtic music are just a catalyst to a fun time where everyone lets their hair down and enjoys a great Irish party. (the event is strictly 21+).

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
