Meet Paul Lai of POKDO Studio in North-Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Lai.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Paul. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came to the States as a voluntary immigrant from Hong Kong, China. I got to where I am today by the supports of those who surround me. My parents gave a headstart by bringing me into the finest educational system in the world and provided for me every step of the way. They told me that it doesn’t matter what field I wanted to work in, as long as I give it my best then they would be ok with it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, starting a business and being an artist are both really hard. Finding clients, keeping the business going are just some of the lighter tasks. The hardest part is to keep believing in what I am doing and also make others believe as well.

Please tell us about POKDO Studio. What should we know?
POKDO Studio is an XR production company that delivers innovative projects centered on promoting social and humanitarian change.

In 2019, POKDO Studio refocused our main methods of storytelling. We chose to use XR mediums to produce new, avant-garde artwork that extends the boundaries of the audience’s reality. Being on the forefront of advancing XR technology allows us to drive forward imaginative forms of VR, AR, MR, AI, and XR content that aims to have a real-world impact through compelling tools and projects.

Our mission as a company is to consistently inspire, educate, and create compelling work at the highest quality and encourage positive change by bringing together mixed-media artists from all around the world.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The most important thing in my success is my responsibility to care for those who are in need. Benjamin Franklin Gates once said: “If there’s something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action.” and I take that quote by heart daily.
