Meet Paul Jun of Kingdom Karts in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Jun.

Paul, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all began when I went to Tokyo this past summer. My friends arranged a tour around popular tourist spots but instead of sitting in a boring bus, they dressed us up in Mario costumes and we drove go-karts around the city. It was such a fun time that I thought it would work really well here in Los Angeles. So I did my research and slowly began the planning stages of the business.

We quickly realized that while go-karts were legal in Japan, they are not here in the states. So I spent a lot of time trying to figure out an alternative when I came across some great all electric golf carts that had custom bodies on them. They could look like anything from a roadster to hummers and it was exactly what I was looking for.

We planned our first event for this past Halloween and it was a great success! Everyone loved driving these awesome vehicles and dressing up as their favorite characters. We’re now in the stages of planning our next event and we’re very excited to introduce a new line of vehicles shortly.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road. In addition to complications with insurance and renting the correct vehicles, we realized that since we can’t lane-split like go-karts, having too many vehicles on one tour is extremely difficult. So now we’re trying to figure out what that limit is and how we can alleviate our tour guides stressing about losing people along the route.

Kingdom Karts – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our business is pure entertainment and social media. Since we have tour guides who also act as photographers accompanying every tour, we get really great photos of all of our guests which is awesome for social media. As a company what I’m most proud of is just the lengths we’ll go to for our guests. We know that each person is taking time out of their day to come and be a part of Kingdom Karts, so we go to extreme lengths to make sure it’s memorable and fun!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has been the general response I’ve received from our guests. The overwhelming support has been really encouraging and makes all of the stress worthwhile.
