Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Grant.
Paul, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My siblings and I grew up in Austin TX, where we played soccer, ate tacos, and naturally became interested in live music. My father passed down the ability to play the guitar and piano as if it was a matter of unlocking a skill for your avatar in your favorite video game. I inherited the stage by the time I was entering middle school and probably performed over a hundred shows during my time in Austin.
Post-high school I started dating my drummer’s little sister who launched an acting career that influenced us to make the move-out West. Once in LA, I released Eyelid Kid’s current single “Rosegøld” paired with a music video and live performance at The Viper Room. Since then I’ve gone through writing blocks, spent time acting, and have temporarily moved out to the East Coast to continue chasing the opportunities in front us.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe there are parts of every road that is smooth and some that are not…
Depression runs in my family and as a teenager, it often got the best of me. Whether it was leaving a scar on my arm or picking fights with my friends, I got to know my demands well. Luckily my friends and family fought for me and helped me navigate those challenges.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eyelid Kid – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m a musician and art director. I specialize in creating the entire package of a performative experience and I’m known as Eyelid Kid. I’m most proud of the talent that I’ve been able to bring together into a single work of art and the longevity of the EK brand.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Well, there are the obvious pros and cons in LA such as; Weather versus traffic and the appearance of a person versus their actual personality.
However, during my time in LA, I thoroughly enjoyed most everyone I met. I think it is an amazing creative hub with endless opportunity and in contrary to its reputation I believe there is a strong work ethic behind its easy-going persona.
