Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul C Barranco.
Paul, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in San Diego, California, surrounded by the action sports scene of surfing, snowboarding and skating. Somewhere during my late teens, I was handed down my first 35mm still camera from my Dad who was a professional photographer.
From there, I was hooked on the craft the camera offered, combined it with my passion for action sports and enrolled in college to further my skill set. I then received my Film and Television degree from San Diego State University and quickly migrated to Los Angeles soon afterward to pursue a career in the media arts.
After my college career, I began working for Fuel TV and Globe Int. Ltd. for numerous years where I created content for both brands and was able to further hone my niche genre of media creation in the action and outdoor space before transitioning as a freelance Director / DP & Owner of Fluid Films.
Now with almost 17 years of industry experience, my focus and passion continues to live in the media creation space where I specialize in the automotive, outdoor, and fashion genres & have worked with such brands as Toyota, Talbots, Red Bull, ESPN, CBS, Discovery Health, Nat Geo, Samsung, Soma Intimates, Subaru, Torrid, Eukanuba & Verizon to name a few.
Has it been a smooth road?
At the end of the day I love the challenges that go along with creating content for brands. And when you have that kind of passion embedded in your job, work never feels like work, it’s just fun. I can honestly say I get excited every time I have the opportunity to shoot and create. Sure there’s competition, but that’s life and things don’t always go your way but I like to use the mindset that if I do lose a job to a competitor, I’m aware I wasn’t a perfect fit for the gig and it’s always nice to leave a little for the next person.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fluid Films – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Fluid Films is a hands-on full-service production house & marketing boutique that specializes in creating authentic branded content from concept to completion. We shape ideas and concepts into winning campaigns. We are a driven team of filmmakers, storytellers, adventurers that are all friends who strive to produce original & engaging content for the specific brand. We live and breathe our work and the passion for our projects shines through on each production.
We are different in the fact that we can tackle almost any production no matter how intense the conditions. Our travels span from Fiji to New Zealand on over to Australia, Micronesia and Bali; in a nutshell, we are capable of going anywhere. One unique job we completed was to document the ultimate test drive and cruise 18,000 miles around North America for 120 days creating a web series remotely for Toyota where conditions spanned from -20 degrees in Alaska then up to 120 degrees later that summer in Death Valley. So that was a challenging one to say the least!
With this, we specialize in creating content in the outdoor, automotive and fashion genres. I’d say we’re most well known for creating content on time, under budget and with a high quality.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
North Hollywood is where I reside. I’m love how centrally located it is to all pretty much everything. There’s plenty of boutique shops, coffee houses, amazing food & street fairs and most importantly arcades. 🙂 Plus it’s easy to pull off any kind of production being that it is in the middle of LA where all things media related are at your fingertips!
