Meet Patrick Choy of Endless Pinball in Anaheim

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Choy.

Patrick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been fascinated by pinball games and arcade video games since the mid 1980’s. Growing up in the 80s, my parents would drop me off at the local arcade and give me $5 worth of quarters while they went shopping. By the 1990’s having one of my own had become a serious obsession. I bought my first pinball, a 1981 Williams Black Knight in 1991. I saved up 3 months of my extra spending $$ from my full-time job to buy my first game. And so, the hobby began.

My college education is a double major in mathematics and computer science (software consultant/ programmer), so the analytical skills fit perfectly in the troubleshooting of games. I did software consulting from 1991 to 1998… In 1998, I got tired of office politics and the business world so I took 30% of my net worth. I bought 50 pinball machines over the course of a week, and hired 3 of my closest pinball friends and started my pinball business. That was almost 20 years ago!

Having owned many machines throughout the years I’ve learned the typical failure modes and weak areas of many machines allowing for fast and reliable repair service and also to anticipate lots of failures before they actually occur in the future.

I started a full-time business restoring, repairing, and retailing pinball and video games since 1998 in Chicago – the city of Pinball. Now I reside and live in Southern California and offer the same service here! I moved to California 10 years ago in 2007, I love the weather, people, and the surroundings here. I am also a Stern distributor and Jersey Jack Pinball distributor. Those are the 2 largest pinball manufacturers in the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business is never easy. It’s not for everyone. The first couple of years required many long hours (probably 80+ hour work weeks). Also, since I was not interested in getting an angel investor, the first few years I put every cent back into the company, to grow the business and inventory of games. I didn’t really take any nice vacations for 3 to 4 years. But it was worth it. The clientele base grew steadily and business started to grow. I would say the main struggle is building a clientele base from the ground up, that’s the hardest part.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Endless Pinball – what should we know?
We specialize in repairing and restoring classic pinball machines and arcade video games.

We are able to repair any electronic components and mechanical components. We can fix electronic circuit boards that are non working as well. Very few companies can do board repairs, these are the circuit boards that make the games work and operate. We also specialize in full cosmetic restorations, we can remove the old artwork and apply new decals or spray paint new silk screen artwork as well. On our high-end restorations, we can make an old game look brand new. We also specialize in games that are electronically dead and completely non-working, we love the challenge in bringing a game back to life both cosmetically and electronically – that sets us apart from other companies and that is what we are known for. We are also a full retail store. We are proud distributors of Jersey Jack Pinball, Stern Pinball, and Multimorphic Pinball games. We also sell fully restored classic pinball games that are no longer made, such great titles as Addams Family, Twilight Zone, Indiana Jones, just to name a few. I am most proud of the fact that we have several celebrities and Hollywood A listers as clients.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would have to say, honesty is number one and quality of work is number two.
