Meet Patricia Kara

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Kara.

Patricia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out modeling at 16 in my hometown of Chicago. The Chicago market was very different at that time.   I worked some, but kept hearing the same thing over and over again that I was too ethnic looking.  Nonetheless, I persisted and one job lead to the next. I built upon those jobs and relationships. I worked internationally before moving to Florida and New York. The move to New York was the best thing I ever did personally and professionally!  I learned so much about myself and the business. The NY market was more open to all types.  I was working consistently and it opened the door to more acting and hosting. Eventually I moved on to Los Angeles where I still reside. I have now been working in the entertainment business for over 30 years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The entertainment business is a rollercoaster ride. There are ups and your downs, twists, and turns. You learn to roll with it. With this business, there is a lot of rejection. You can’t take it personally. Sometimes it doesn’t have anything to do with you. There are so many factors that go into the decision making process on casting.  I have learned to just keep moving forward and stay focused.  Persistence and dedication are key.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I have always worked in the entertainment business modeling, hosting and acting. I am most known for working as Model #9 on Deal or No Deal since 2005. I am the only model that has worked on all three versions of the show. Currently airing on CNBC every Wednesday!  In addition to my own pursuits, I also provide consultation to other professionals in the entertainment industry.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is doing what you love and enjoying the process. Success is being happy at what you do and who you are!
