Meet Parker Howe of Howe Estate Sales in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Parker Howe.

Parker, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had an eye for quality. When I was a little child, my mom, an interior designer at the time, used to drag me around to antique stores and the Pacific Design Center to shop for clients. From an early age, I got to appreciate quality design and antiques. As a teen, I enjoyed running my parents and their friend’s garage sales. I found it fascinating how I could turn a bunch of “junk” into cash. It was thoroughly enjoyable haggling over a $1 old school t-shirt. The real turning point where I decided to go into the estate sale business occurred after my aunt’s mother-in-law passed away. She left behind a gorgeous estate in Ventura. We trucked it all down to my aunt’s home in Pasadena where we set up and ran the estate sale. I was shocked with the amount of money and the enjoyment I had when I was helping set up the sale with my aunt. I thought from that point that this was what I could potentially do this as a career, but I should go to college first. During college, I majored in business with a focus on finance. I quickly determined that finance did not hold a candle to the excitement that I had when I ran a sale. For three years in college, I worked for a local estate sale company and learned how to start and run an estate sale business. Howe Estate Sales started as soon as I graduated from college in 2013.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business is never an easy task. It was difficult at first for clients to take me seriously when I was fresh out of college at 22. This was the single most difficult struggle that I have had to overcome while starting this business. Luckily, after completing several sales during our initial few months as a company and working for local realtors, Howe Estate Sales began to grow through word of mouth and referral. Today we have a strong following of local buyers eager to attend sales and purchase the contents of the homes that we liquidate.

Please tell us about Howe Estate Sales.
Howe Estate Sales specializes in selling the contents of homes quickly and for a fair price that benefits the client as well as the estate sale shopper. We specialize in downsizing estate sales where the client moves from a larger home into a smaller home and is looking to part with a majority of the home’s contents. We sell everything from cleaning products to diamond rings and works of art. Through our fair prices, we have grown a large following that actively attends our estate sales all over the Pasadena and Los Angeles areas. As a company, we are most proud of the level of service that we provide to our clients as well as customers. It is important to keep the client involved and engaged throughout the estate sale process as it is often a difficult time emotionally. Selling one’s personal property is never an easy task, we strive to make the process easier and profitable for our clients. The ways that sets us apart from others in our industry is the professionalism and set up that we put into our sales. We stage everything so that the interior of the home is transformed into a conducive shopping environment for our customers to shop in. We are often told that our photos bring people to the sale as we will post 100-300 photos of the items for sale so that our buyers will know exactly what they want to purchase prior to attending the sale.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood took place when I was growing up in Santa Barbara. I used to run a little lemonade stand on the corner of our street and would “hire” my sister to help sell the lemonade. It was interesting that when I had my sister helping we seemed to make more money than if I ran it by myself. My sister and I spent many Saturdays holding up signs for lemonade and sometimes freshly baked cookies from my mom if we were lucky.
