Today we’d like to introduce you to Owen Kolasinski.
Owen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been taking photos since I was a child. After college I moved to NY to work at the International Center of Photography, while working there I got connected with an event photo agency called BFA. I’ve worked with them for almost a decade now, helping them establish a West Coast office, and branching out personally into photography outside of events- namely portraiture and product. I live for imagery and am grateful to have ended up successfully in my chosen industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
I am always trying to learn from my mistakes. Nothing worthwhile ever really seems to be along the smoothest road. COVID-19 has most certainly presented the most challenging obstacle to my career yet. But it is inspiring me to branch out and pursue new opportunities in shooting.
Please tell us about your work.
I specialize primarily in high-end event photography. I’ve been doing this for a decade now and am proficient in the camera-yielding dance of covering an event. It’s made me sharp in all other fields of shooting, in terms of quickly getting the right exposure for any given environment, and knowing how to deal with broad swaths of people- furthermore having the ability to put them at ease. It’s been a wonderful learning experience and I’m excited to see where my skills lead me.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Post covid-19, photography will be drastically different. Most notably in terms of crew size. Most production moving forward is going to be a lot more bare-bones. Technology has enabled us to facilitate such a shift.
