Meet Otiswoods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Otiswoods.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Alex AKA Otiswoods Guatemalan American surrealist artist was born and raised around the Mac Arthur park area. Has lived his entire life in this area moving from one place to the other almost every year, He didn’t grow up with a wealthy family but was wealthy emotionally, he was happy. His path as an artist began at an early age but didn’t take as serious, he grew older and practiced on the way, he has no academic training just a tv and cereal on hand. Today he continues his career as an artist exploring various subjects of the artworld.

Please tell us about your art.
Otis woods work is often described as dark and cute. Why he makes is still a question he asks himself, or is because it feels right? He works best when he doesn’t have a story to work from or any time type of idea, it happens intuitively and everything just adds up in the end. The work has messages even he needs to still discover. But he doesn’t always work that way, coming up with a good narrative isn’t easy. He wants the viewer to take something with when they look at his work, and that something could very simple something they can relate, his work is both familiar and unfamiliar.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I have one word, discipline. The greatest opportunities are open to those who seek it and work hard for it, have a good attitude and take criticism lightly. Opportunities don’t come knocking at your door. That’s how you become successful, says Otis woods.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
