Today we’d like to introduce you to Otillo and Joyce Erojo.
Otillo and Joyce, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Recruiting and Staffing for Yum Brands when I was a Restaurant Manager in 1988. I found myself really interested in making sure we hired the most passionate and happiest people I could. It’s was at that stage I realized that passion and ability were much more important than experience. The technical can always be taught, but passion can’t be taught.
We started Joyco Staffing with one thought in mind, People First, Profits Follow. If a company hires for bodies, it will never succeed. But when a company puts it people first, then profits always follow. At Joyco Staffing we believe that a successful hire is one where a candidate’s creativity meets their ability driven by their passion.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took over 20 years of learning the craft of a successful hire. Along the way we learned so much about people and what drives, motivates and helps them excel. Starting Joyco Staffing has been a journey, it’s always difficult to start a business and grow the business. There is so much competition in the staffing business especially in Southern California. But how we have grown the business was to market to employers and candidates that the formula for success in business is this…. People First. Profits Follow.
Please tell us about Joyco Staffing.
As a boutique staffing company, Joyco Staffing specializes in only one thing, it’s People. We are in the people business, not the restaurant, IT, financial, retail or banking business, but the PEOPLE business. That’s the only thing we do! Sure, we help all of those types of business, but we are known for our PEOPLE first.
What sets us apart from other staffing companies is that we never forget it’s always…. People First. Profits Follow.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite memories from childhood was summertime breaks and going to the beach and roasting marshmallows at the fire pits and cooking hot dogs. Then go back swimming until dark and singing around the firepit at the beach at night. Living the SoCal Dream!!!
