Meet Olivia Panick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Panick.

Olivia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I was just a little girl, I used to always tell my parents I wanted to be an artist. I would draw and paint on nearly everything. As I got older, I was always told by my teachers and old friends that having a “real job” is what I need to do. So I put my dream of being an artist on the back burner. I had no idea what else I would do but I followed the typical Ivy League aspiring student lifestyle. I absolutely hated it. All I wanted to do was create art and bring people into my world. So I started doing makeup! I’ve been doing makeup for about eight years but I would say professionally 6. The day I picked up a brush and used my own face as a canvas was a game-changer. I’m now able to fully show the craziness within my mind and also bring that world into other people’s art!

Has it been a smooth road?
My main struggle was the realization that this is most definitely an unconventional job. Being a special FX artist isn’t as common as it actually may look nowadays. It’s very hard to get anywhere. That’s why I decided to take this very seriously once I knew this was the path for me. I chose to go to school in Hollywood for makeup. I wanted to make sure I was 100% committed to my art and learning new ways of marketing and everything like that. It was really hard to take in the idea of not making much money at first and really having to fight for it, but it’s been so worth it. I wouldn’t change it for the world.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My business is all about special effects! I do custom mask making, prosthetics, paint, etc.! Anything you need to completely transform a person into anything crazy like a monster, I can help! I’m most proud of always staying true to my style. Of course, there are times on set when a director or whoever is a part of a creative team needs a very specific thing. But, most of the time I am hired because of my style and that is absolutely amazing. To know other creators love the world I created makes me so happy! What sets me apart from other businesses is my attention to detail. I will work on a project until it is 100% me and also 100% my client. Everything has to be at its fullest potential!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I absolutely adore LA. Of course, the traffic drives me nuts when I’m bouncing around from set to set. Just the thought of working in such a huge city brings the biggest smile to my face! Especially since it’s one of the most creative cities. So many dreamers and artists everywhere you look!
