Meet Olga Voronova of Voronovabeautysfx in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olga Voronova.

Olga, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m from Russia and moved to LA about nine years ago.

Since I was a child, I loved to be creative and express myself in every way I could.

As a child, I went from sawing classes and puppet theater to dancing and rhythmic gymnastics and also finishing music school playing guitar and piano.

When I was a teenager, I saw on the Tv how people in the US dress up for Halloween and do their makeup to look more like their favorite characters. It inspired me to want to pursue career of makeup artist but unfortunately my parents told me that it wasn’t a real profession and it won’t support me in life. They didn’t allow me to go to school for that.

Time went by I was scouted as a model and went traveling around the world meeting new friends and seeing all those makeup artists, who made makeup their successful life career.

I ended in Los Angeles about nine years ago right on Halloween and seeing (this time not on the TV but with my own eyes) all those people dressed up and with crazy makeup, sparked my memories and I fell for the dream of being a makeup artist all over again.

I went to makeup school and now, 11 years after my parents told me that makeup artist isn’t a real job, I’m developing my career as a beauty and SFX makeup artist along with still being a model.

I have several magazine publications and had worked on movie sets as well. I especially love to do spooky makeups and see people’s reactions and all the fun they’re having when they see their final transformation.

I’m happy and grateful that I was able to move to LA and make my dream career become a reality. 🙂

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s sure had been a bumpy ride but it only made me stronger in my desire to develop and grow as a makeup artist. There are so many creative, talented people over there that it could be intimidating sometimes. You can’t help but start comparing yourself with other artists time to time. At the moments like that, it’s important to remember that you’re unique in your own way, believe in yourself and keep going.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Voronovabeautysfx – what should we know?
I really enjoy doing sfx makeup, I also really like to incorporate sfx in beauty makeup and create something more creative.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Needless to say, it’s important to have a good work ethic. Be on time, keep everything clean and organized, be kind, have a nice attitude and patience. Word gets around, you would be surprised how small the industry actually is.

Often people are not used to getting their makeup done, so they could be very indecisive or keep asking to change a certain thing, they’re not doing it to be difficult but because they are new to it and it’s making them nervous, at those times patience will come in handy 😉
