Today we’d like to introduce you to Nova DeJhemani.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nova. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Makeup, hair, and costuming found me. Growing up; like many girls, I loved to dress up and play pretend which lead me to my first love…acting. When I was 17 years old I landed my first role in an independent film. I showed up on set with full a full wardrobe, hair, and makeup set up and the director and production team took full advantage of my resources. Unaware at the time, I had found myself as a freelance artist which allowed me to work more often in an adjacent trade to the entertainment industry, as key makeup by supporting filmmakers, photographers, and artists. From there I developed a solid reputation in the community specializing in on-location hair, makeup, and wardrobe artistry gaining expertise in live events, TV, film, and photography.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Is there ever a smooth road? My story is full of all sorts of bumps and bruises along the way, but that is the very nature of “finding your path” or “blazing a trail”. However inconvenient or unfortunate it may be, I can relate to just about every cliche in the entertainment industry. In fact, I have “quit” many times… out of principle, out of financial necessity, or due to circumstances. Although, I’ve come to believe that you can’t escape your purpose and all the crazy stories that you collect along the way make for a very colorful story.
Beauty By Nova – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I feel very blessed to be known by her peers, clients, business partners, and personal relationships as an intricate and dynamic person that can “do it all”. In other words, I love being able to wear different hats for different occasions and different opportunities. Some days I am Beauty By Nova and provide makeup, hair, and costume/wardrobe artistry. Other days, I provide production support and management, creative direction, and even event management. I really do enjoy life and love a good challenge.
I have a firm belief in walking the walk and a business and personal mantra of contribution, cultivation, and creative inspiration through the arts. Unimpeded by boundaries or restrictive environments, I can confidently say that I always enhance the projects that I work on and create an environment that ensures positive working relationships as well as thrilled clients and audiences.
As a makeup artist, I specialize in airbrush makeup and help my clients look and feel their best by giving them the skin and eyebrows that they wish they were born with. I have struggled with skin issues and “barely there” brows all my life so I have first-hand knowledge and expertise helping my clients outside beauty match their inside beauty.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a state of mind… One that I work on everyday.
I feel that when you bless individuals, families, and communities with whatever you do, then you are a success! It’s not just about profit or status… but also about how our work benefits the world and people around us.
I read a quote recently that rang true to me… “To be successful you must accept all challenges that come your way. You can’t just accept the ones you like” – Mike Gafka
In other words, NEVER GIVE UP 😉
