Meet Niyome Bello and Tamy Sloboda of Revo Academy in Thousand Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niyome Bello and Tamy Sloboda.

Niyome and Tamy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As both educational professionals and parents of gifted learners, we started Revo Academy out of necessity for our own children. After years of advocating for our children and having it fall on deaf ears, we refused to settle and set out to break the mold and build a better way.

We are now in our third year of operation and growing every year. We have been recognized by pioneers in the field as thought leaders in education, forging select partnership with SIG, AltSchool, Cal Lutheran and NSGT. We are one of ten schools in the country selected to partner with the highly regarded Altschool and the only school in the county to partner with the prestigious SIG as an after-school offering. Today we have one school location in Thousand Oaks and plan to open other micro-school locations in the next few years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s a daunting privilege to have others entrust educating their children to you and one we take very seriously to get right.  Like any organization forging a new way, we certainly have had our fair share of obstacles. Ensuring we have proper funding and most importantly that we attract and retain top talent is a priority for us. We work hard to get it right and quickly course correct when we need to.

Revo Academy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a K-8 gifted learner school. We specialize in providing appropriately challenging education to advanced and gifted learners. We are most proud of our stellar and dedicated team. We create innovative curriculum ranging from interdisciplinary projects to our social entrepreneurship program to our gardening and makerspace programs.

We provide personalized education to ensure we properly meet the needs of each student and we are sure to have a ton of fun along the way.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For our school, success is seeing joy and a sense of real accomplishment in our students- we want to see a light and enthusiasm in our students’ eyes.

For us personally, success is building a high-quality progressive school that serves the greater good and offers a sense of personal fulfillment of a life well-lived.
