Meet Nisha Espy and Zinthia Lopez of Elevated Room Events in Echo Park/San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Espy and Zinthia Lopez.

Nisha and Zinthia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Zinthia and I have been long-time childhood friends, and after planning my wedding in 2016, we both realized very quickly, that event planning and design was something we were not only interested in, but passionate about. After having our sons in 2018, we knew that we needed to transition to a career that was more flexible and had opportunities for growth.

I had been working (and currently am still) as a freelance photographer since 2010, but had been looking to focus on a career that I felt really utilized my strengths and passions. Zinthia had been working as an HR business partner for a reputable fashion company, however, after her return from maternity leave, she knew that the time away from her young son was not worth the paycheck.

We finally decided that we were going to do it. We started an event planning company so that we could be our own bosses, and create the potential to be as successful as we wanted to be. We love all aspects of our job now, from coordination to full-service planning, we have the ability to harness our skills and talents, while also making the time to be present in our children’s lives. They were really the true motivators when deciding to pursue this new venture. We want to continually grow, learn, and be role models for our sons, and we finally feel like we have found our true calling.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Like any new business, there will always be some struggles along the way. We’ve taken each job we’ve worked on and used it as a teaching experience. For every new event we, we’ve refined and streamlined what we’ve learned from the past.

Elevated Room Events – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Elevated Room Events is a full-service planning and design company. We elevate events by mastering the art of planning and highlighting the unique touches that people remember. Our aesthetic is modern but timeless, subtle yet memorable… and bold but deliberate. Much of our inspiration is drawn from works of art. We strive to produce innovative and unconventional events that are neither manufactured or contrived and construct an event by providing honest advice and appropriate direction. Through understanding your ideas, we create the collaborative vision of all those involved to produce a final, tangible product.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is different to everyone, but we believe that there are many ways one can be successful. In our careers, I think that once we reach a level of consistency, building a solid reputation, and knowing our true value would be the definition of success.

In our personal lives, we feel extremely successful. We have an amazing support system, beautiful and healthy children, and a network of friends and colleagues that we are so grateful for.
