Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisey Rashad.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nisey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Atlanta, GA. I started using music as a form of communication. I had an interesting upbringing that kind of hindered my sense of self. No matter what I accomplished, I either wasn’t enough or too much. I learned how to blend in the background. Then people started to notice my taste in music and film. Eventually, I wrote some music and released it. I started performing and directing. Life leads me here.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I had a hard time getting over myself. That inner critic. Anxiety and PTSD didn’t help much either. You get used to always being under attack or having to defend yourself that you forget to celebrate your accomplishments along the way. You get so caught up that it’s hard to make friends and you’re bracing yourself for an attack all the time. It’s hard to create in that type of mental space.
What else should our readers know?
I like to think of myself as a multifaceted business. You need an actor, that’s me. You want a singer, I’m here, The character raps, no problem.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Going fishing with my Papa. We were on his boat, I looked over and swore I saw a baby shark swim under. He laughed and told me all about how Lake Lanier is a man-made lake so there’s no way I saw a shark, it’s impossible. We had just watch Jaws the night before and I was so pissed he prepared me for a possible emergency and then didn’t even listen when ish got real.
