Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Berglund.
Hi Nina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have always loved drawing as well as fashion and design. I’ve been thinking of starting a clothing brand that features my drawings for about three years now, but it just never felt like the right time, and I didn’t know how or where to start. Then finally, I got the push I needed to start my clothing brand. This ‘push’ was an Entrepreneurship course that I took my senior year of high school at Santa Monica College. The final assignment of this course was to actually start a business. And that’s how ‘Nina Be’ officially came to be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest thing about my business, at first, was investigating if the ideas that I wanted to create would be possible for me to pull off and how I would go about doing it. My goal is to build a really fun, attitude-filled clothing brand that resonates with kids and young adults. In order to do this, I had to create really cool graphics on well-fitting and well-made clothes. I had to find the right suppliers and strategic partners to help me pull it all off. I am really happy with the quality, fit and design of my first collection. Now my biggest challenge is to make people aware of my products and to expand my sales.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nina Be?
Nina Be is a woman-owned and female-focused fashion brand featuring clothes with flattering fits and playful illustrations. Our first collection features t-shirts and swimsuits priced from $25 to $55. First and foremost, each item is a conversation starter, and all of the illustrations are 100% unique to this brand. In the future, we plan on branching out to new styles of clothing as well as accessories (so follow our social media to keep up with this journey)!
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anyone is just to ‘stop thinking about what you want to do and start doing it!’, whether that be trying a new hobby or starting a business, like me. The reason why I say this is because it will never feel like the ‘right time’, so just do it! I had been thinking about starting this clothing brand for years, and if I didn’t get that push from my Entrepreneurship course, I may not have ever started it. I am so glad that I did finally start it because it’s super fun to see my designs and clothing make it out into the world, as well as to get positive feedback from people who enjoy wearing my brand.
