Meet Niehla Ollie of Faces by Niehla in Central Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Niehla Ollie.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Niehla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always had an obsession with transformations. I mean, as a kid heading to school on public transportation on the south side of Chicago, I was giving people “make-overs” in my head. I guess I have a flair for envisioning people at their best. This is my “Super Power”. So, it was only natural that this career found me. I tried to be straight-laced and take the marketing route to college, but that lead me to a career in advertising that felt like a slow death. I learned the hard way that corporate America wasn’t for me. I kept asking God to show me what was next, and I found my self-enrolled in a Makeup artistry program at Columbia College and the rest is history. Almost 20 years later, I can proudly say that I’m celebrity makeup artist who has worked nationally and internationally. Pinch me!!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Over the years I’ve learned that the work life of a makeup artist is unstable and in order to go the distance, you must hustle. You have to juggle multiple jobs, sometimes wait 90 days to for payment, you must have an easy going personality because often times you will deal with challenging personalities. Most of all you’ve got to have a great sense of humor. It’s the lifestyle of most artist creative professionals. So, you must love what you do, because it’s not always about the art.

Please tell us about Faces by Niehla.
I am the lead makeup artist for Faces by Niehla and I specialize in offering my clients natural beauty through makeup artistry. We live in the day and age of overdone makeup and “beat faces” for social media. I like to offer the alternative of natural beauty or as I like to call my artistry aesthetic, Everyday Glamour. This style offers correction and gentle enhancements and it ranges from subtle to bold, but never overdone. I believe that every woman is beautiful, so it’s my job to showcase and enhance their beauty. The experience that I’m able to give to each client is one of positivity, affirmation and spiritual enlightenment, coupled with lots of laughs and good conversation.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have probably started my makeup career earlier. But, every life unfolds as it should, so I have no regrets.
