Meet Nicole Woods of Viking Social Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Woods.

Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started Viking earlier this year after taking a leap of faith and leaving my job. I left with the intention of trying to find the right place for me – consulting, going back to an agency, or moving back to the client side. As I started reaching out to my network, Viking evolved into what it is today. My goal was to create an agency that feels more like a partnership than a vendor relationship.

I started working to build a team of talented strategists, social managers, and creative to make sure all clients feel like a priority – because they are. As we’ve grown, we’ve been able to branch into working with brands and entertainment clients, social strategy, community management and creative. It’s become the best of all worlds and possibilities I imagined back in March.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a blessing, but not always easy. I think the hardest thing about building an agency is finding the right people. It’s been a little bit of an up and down when it comes to that. Through the summer, I had four super solid base employees that I’ve been working to build around. It was a little bit of a challenge to find the right people, but now we’re up to 14, and everyone has been working great. We’re constantly looking for more great talent as I never want to be in the position that we’re so overloaded we can’t take on new clients or projects.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Viking specializes in digital marketing with a focus on all things social media. There are two parts of the business – strategy and creative. Our strategy team consults with clients who need help with social management, work with other agencies to help pitch strategy to their clients, and run our clients’ social profiles. The creative team helps develop all types of creative from digital graphics to motion pieces for social campaigns.

As we grow, we want to continue to build out both teams as I strongly believe having a great strategy and not great creative your campaign won’t be effective and visa-versa. You really need to blend the two to make the most out of your campaign.

The reason clients come to us is our attention to hearing what they need. We make sure we listen and deliver above and beyond. To us, you’re our partners, and we want to make sure we’re delivering the best we can always.

What I’m most proud of as a company is how quickly we grew and the positive feedback from clients. As a business owner, it’s the best feeling in the world when clients say they love working with you.

What were you like growing up?
Starting at eight, my mom and I would play games where we’d analyze commercials and print ads. It was fun to me – at the time I just wanted to be a surgeon, but the game we played with advertising and marketing came so naturally that by high school I realized that’s what I wanted to do.

Honestly, I was always an overachiever and started working when I was 14 while playing high-level volleyball and going to a college-prep school. I even started fostering animals (one of my passions now) when I was six. I’ve always loved animals and have been told many times that people are surprised I didn’t end up as a Vet.
