Meet Nicole Rombeau-Jennings of For The Furry in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Rombeau-Jennings.

Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For The Furry is the chic and cuddly brainchild of an LA native Nicole Rombeau Jennings. Inspired by the absence of luxury, modern pet products on the market, Nicole set out to create a different kind of pet store—one where design, quality, and a borderline unhealthy obsession with animals rule above all else.

My name is Nicole Rombeau Jennings. For The Furry is the creative brainchild of mine. When I was rebuilding my home a few years ago, I found that I was searching high and low for pet supplies and accessories that fit my home without compromising on design. My goal for this website is to do the work for you, so you don’t have to go through what I did when decorating my home.

Before I made my dreams into a reality, I was a Creative Producer in the fashion industry for ten years. I would go to bed at night and think about how I didn’t love my job anymore. My Dad, who was my idol and best friend, was lucky enough to turn his passion (tennis) into work for his whole career. I saw how truly happy he always was going to work. Now that he has passed, I believe one of the best ways for me to honor his memory is to do what I love.

I grew up loving animals. I got my first dog when I was ten years old. A tiny, but very feisty, Shih Tzu. From then on, I was hooked on the love you can share with a pet. Since then, my husband and I have had many dogs together. From his childhood Cocker Spaniel to our rescue Spaniel that we found in a shelter to our current lives with three wild (and very different) fur babies. All of these dogs have fulfilled our lives beyond expectations.

Our current tribe consists of our oldest, Ellie (8) or when she is naughty, Eleanor. She is a mini Labradoodle and I fully believe she is my soul mate. Ellie has been next to me during some of the hardest years of my life. To this day, I thank Ellie for keeping me going when I really didn’t think I could. Our middle child is our goofy silly boy, Oliver (4), a full-size Bernadoodle. He is NAUGHTY, clumsy and oh so protective. He is like glue, always by my side to the point that my husband is jealous. Fast-forward 4 years later and that will get you to my newest son, Nougat (6 months). He is a mix of 8 larger breeds. His story is much different than my other two (pure breeds). A dear friend of mine (littleloverescue) found a Mama dog and her six newborn puppies at a kill shelter in LA. Within hours, all seven dogs were at my house and I fostered and helped raise them for 12 weeks. Once their time came to find new homes, I couldn’t seem to let go of this sweet little chubby boy who stole my heart. So, we became a family of 5!

For the Furry is my absolute passion project! I’m proud to also say that over 70% of the brands we carry on here are founded by women! My goal with this site is to bring you everything you need for your fur babe in one store. I’m very excited to share that For the Furry will be launching its first line of bandanas this fall! Thank you for being fans and customers of the store. It truly warms my heart and every photo that is sent makes this all worth it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! Starting a small business has its ups and downs, it’s always scary when you’re in a fork in the road and you want to be sure you took the right path.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about For The Furry – what should we know?
Founded in 2018 by a fashion-focused dog mom, For The Furry is a curated shop and lifestyle destination dedicated to the finer things for our four-legged friends. Celebrating fashion, travel, and above all—a love of animals—FTF features well-considered and thoughtfully designed accessories, apparel, and home goods for fur babies and the ones who spoil them. We are also proud to carry a ton of options from women-owned brands!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion, if I didn’t love or truly believe in what I was selling I don’t think the shop would work.
