Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole (Nikki) Niestemski.
A SoCal girl at heart, Nikki loves waking up with the sun, chasing waves, and adventuring in nature. She’s also just as content sipping tea and reading a book in bed. After receiving her BFA in Dance and Minor in Communications from Cal State Long Beach she spent over a decade in Los Angeles working as a professional dancer. Making a career out of her passion was fun and exhilarating, but the nature of the industry left her feeling inadequate and in search of validation and acceptance from someone or something. She never felt like enough. The only gig she needed to book was the job of unconditionally loving herself. SPOILER ALERT: she discovered that she’s wildly more than enough (and so are you).
While dancing, Nikki also became a makeup artist and certified group fitness instructor. From barre to HIIT, she was painting faces and toning abs all across La La Land. With all of her focus on the external, her mind could barely do a bicep curl. She’s always been an advocate for change and you best believe she made one. Nikki started meditating and shortly after became a Reiki Practitioner, in turn opening the door to her spiritual journey. Her heart called for more. She embarked on a solo adventure to Bali to study Yoga— the type of yoga that requires much more sitting than chattaranga-ing. This choice was absolutely pinnacle to her life-changing transformation. In the stillness, she met herself.
Wanting more, Nikki uprooted her entire life and moved to Bali. After diving deep into practice and learning what it meant to be a Yogini, her teacher offered her a job teaching at the studio where she trained. Nikki taught while simultaneously soaking up every nugget of knowledge she could, studying meditation, pranayama, ayurveda, yoga nidra, yin, yoga for kids and essential oils. She furthered her education and completed her 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Tantric Hatha Yoga at The Practice Bali, led by her devoted teacher Octavio Salvado.
Now Nikki has answered the call, she’s ready to share these teachings with the world. She believes her background and experiences have led her right back to SoCal, where our journey began… and begins again. With a passion for surfing and a deep respect for the ocean, Nikki believes we must take care of our outer world just as much as we take care of our inner world. Nikki is an advocate for the environment and strives to elevate global awareness while creating a conscious community with people on the same WAVE-LENGTH. She encourages everyone to inner-joy the ride!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Failure is part of success. When I first moved back to LA from Bali, I was struggling! While I was building my community, I would often show up to teach class and find that no one would show up. Or I would end up paying the studio to teach because I didn’t get enough people. It was devasting! Not to mention exhausting, I also was dealing with the loss of my dog and the end of a long relationship which weighed on my heart tremendously. But I never let it stop me. I would make sure to take time everyday for myself to heal and process and love myself first. Even though I was at a low point, I believed in my purpose and kept showing up.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I’m known for creating a space for others to transform, to gain the tools to empower themselves and cultivate more self-love so they can courageously shine their light. I blend Tantric Hatha Yoga with the principals of Ayurveda and the healing energy of Reiki to bring ultimate balance and well-being to my clients. I feel like my warm energy and upbeat attitude allows people to feel safe and supported by me. I’m able to communicate clearly in a way that is relatable for many and can take big concepts and simplify them into digestible information that people can implement into their daily lives.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
My dad would always say, “the harder I work, the luckier I get.” And I truly believe that my discipline and dedication has impacted my life in a very lucky way.
