Meet Nicole George

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole George.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My name is Nicole George, the Owner & Creative Director of Nicole George Event Planning & Design, a Southern California wedding and event design and planning company! We are a tribe of creatives, and logistical planners focused on designing personalized experiences and rad celebrations. I’ve been in this industry for 10 years, but my philosophy remains the same – we’re all about creating experiences, listening to love stories, and providing the experience to pull it all together… most importantly, we believe in creating rad celebrations with a side of wedding (yes, you read that correctly)!

This whole shindig started while studying interior design in design school. One thing led to another, and in discovering that event design was my jam, I decided right then and there that planning & designing social events and weddings was going to envelop my career, none of this “I loved my wedding, I think that I’ll be a wedding planner now” deal. Sprinkle in putting in my dues with another leading planning company and venue managing two venues in San Diego’s iconic Balboa Park, Nicole George Events was born in 2013 and has expanded to two locations in San Diego and Long Beach, California.

To this day, design remains a prominent aspect of our planning style and philosophy and attracts most of our couples. Those who may have a concept but aren’t necessarily sure how to tie it all together. Our design background has allowed us to really personalize and authenticate our couple’s experiences to help make their wedding “their own.”

Please tell us about your art.
The how and why we design weddings is two-fold – one because we are logistical gurus as much as we love getting down and dirty in the creative realm, but secondly, because we truly value the relationship that we are lucky enough to create with our couples – sometimes just a few months and sometimes a few years. A huge piece of our philosophy involves learning about what makes our couples’ love stories unique and what quirks we can intertwine into their wedding day. We’re all about the customization and the personalization no matter how large, small, elegant or laid back, but regardless of the design – it’s about creating an experience that speaks to the couple.

I think that couples planning their wedding or social events need to remember to take a step back and focus on what truly makes you happy. What do you love to do? What do you love to eat? What kind of music do you like? What is your style? What “formalities” are important to you? All of those aspects should make their way into any social event or wedding, and we firmly believe in only including detail that means something to you or your relationship. It shouldn’t be about what anyone else wants or what is “traditional” – instead, focus on what type of event YOU would want to attend.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
We are fortunate to attract our ideal couple – those that value investing in a solid design to make their event much more personal. However, the biggest challenge facing wedding designers today is that there is a stigma that you don’t necessarily need a designer to articulate their vision and to that I say, how could you afford to not hire a professional to assist with planning and designing one of the biggest events of your life?

Most of our couples come to us because they already know that a planner is crucial to their mental wellbeing during a stressful year of wedding planning. Some couples dive into the venue search then realize how much of a full-time job planning can actually be and we’re there for you then, too! Regardless, we recommend starting with a planner towards the beginning stages of wedding planning (the earlier, the better!) in order for a professional to take a look at the bigger picture and provide you with the maximum amount of guidance, budget management, and design assistance on a personal level. From there, your planner will dive in to help navigate the waters on your behalf, provide personalized guidance that is appropriate to your particular needs and wants, to logistically master the behind the scenes email extravaganza with vendors, while guiding you through the fun parts of planning (I.E. options, options, options!), and of course, to match couples with vendors that are a tried and true fit to their style, personality, budget, and vision.

Sure, you can take all of this on yourself, and you may even want to but is it worth the stress on the morning of your wedding to be thinking if the caterer has checked in? Let me put it this way, I’ve been a full-service wedding planner for ten years and even as a planner myself, I hired a full-service planner for my wedding a few years ago!
