Meet Nicolas Crequat of Street Workout Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolas Crequat.

Nicolas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Street Workout Academy was founded in 2014 and has been helping people improving their fitness and health ever since. After an 8 years career as a business and marketing consultant in Paris, I knew very well how mainstream and big corporations created and sold their products to the masses. Fitness and health are unfortunately not an isolated market, so the prime idea behind the academy was simple: go against the mainstream flow and provide people with real training, real advice, real results.

This means (sometimes) telling people what they don’t want to hear, debunking fitness & diet myths as well as marketing scams which claim to get magic results in 4 weeks. I live and go through this journey with passion. Located in Marina Del Rey, we continue to welcome people and train hard every day!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most roads are bumpy but we fix every pothole we find along the way. Los Angeles is a very competitive market and our “raw” method and principles are sometimes harder to sell than pre-marketed, mainstream, falsely magical fitness and health tricks. So we have to compete with this type of players.

We then realized that it is harder to sell natural solutions such as “drinking more water” or “being active every day even for 20 minutes” than selling expensive supplements, pills and drinks claiming magical benefits. But no matter how tough the road is, we are proud of what we do and our ethic has helped us build solid relationships with our clients along the way.

Please tell us about Street Workout Academy.
We offer natural fitness and health solutions to people. We don’t use any equipment, weights or supplements. Our training method is based on outdoor training, calisthenics/bodyweight movement and natural whole foods nutrition. We offer small group (6 people max) and private sessions to let our clients learn and understand what they are doing. People learn movement and strength based techniques using only their bodyweight, mixing techniques from various disciplines such as gymnastics, yoga, parkour or breakdance.

We focus on good form, high intensity and creativity during all our sessions. There are countless movements and freestyle alternatives to basic moves such as pull ups, push ups, dips, squats, levers, human flags, muscle ups and more. We are very proud of our work ethic and stay away from fitness and health trends. We offer the purest form of support to our clients and their progress speaks for itself.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
While marketed, gimmicky, machine and tech-based programs have been dominating the industry for decades, I believe that the natural approach that we are preaching is gaining the popularity it deserves. Bodyweight workouts, movement-based methods and natural nutrition are a no-brainer when it comes to health and fitness.

Calisthenics is gaining popularity and people’s awareness is on the rise. I think this will only keep getting better and I work hard every day to promote this great sport.
